Saint Raphael the Archangel

St. Raphael is one of the seven Archangels who stand before the throne of the Lord, and one of the only three mentioned by name in the Bible. He appears, by name, only in the Book of Tobit. Raphael's name means "God heals." This identity came about because of the biblical story that claims he "healed" the earth when it was defiled by the sins of the fallen angels in the apocryphal book of Enoch. Disguised as a human in the Book of Tobit, Raphael refers to himself as "Azarias the son of the great Ananias" and travels alongside Tobit's son, Tobiah. Once Raphael returns from his journey with Tobiah, he declares to Tobit that he was sent by the Lord to heal his blindness and deliver Sarah, Tobiah's future wife, from the demon Asmodeus. It is then that his true healing powers are revealed and he makes himself known as "the angel Raphael, one of the seven, who stand before the Lord" Tobit 12:15. The demon Asmodeus killed every man Sarah married on the night of the wedding, before the marriage could be consummated. Raphael guided Tobiah and taught him how to safely enter the marriage with Sarah. Raphael is credited with driving the evil spirit from Sarah and restoring Tobit's vision, allowing him to see the light of Heaven and for receiving all good things through his intercession. Although only the archangels Gabriel and Michael are mentioned by name in the New Testament, the Gospel of John speaks of the pool at Bethesda, where many ill people rested, awaiting the moving of the water. "An angel of the Lord descended at certain times into the pond; and the water was moved. And he that went down first into the pond after the motion of the water was made whole of whatsoever infirmity he lay under" John 5:1-4. Because of the healing powers often linked to Raphael, the angel spoken of is generally associated with St. Raphael, the Archangel St. Raphael is the patron saint of travelers, the blind, bodily ills, happy meetings, nurses, physicians and medical workers. He is often pictured holding a staff and either holding or standing on a fish. His feast day is celebrated on September 29, along with St. Michael and St. Gabriel.

Jest patronem aptekarzy, chorych, lekarzy, emigrantów, pielgrzymów, podróżujących, uciekinierów, wędrowców i żeglarzy. Przedstawiany jest, jako młodzieniec bez zaro-stu, ubrany w tunikę i chlamidę, atrybutami jego są: krzyż, laska pielgrzyma, czasami ryba i naczynie. Święty Rafał Archanioł jest prawzorem Anioła Stróża. Księga Tobiasza pokazuje działania Anioła Stróża – jest on naszym bratem i opiekunem, od którego możemy ocze-kiwać pomocy w niebezpieczeństwie. Jest nam szczegól-nie pomocny w godzinie śmierci abyśmy zeszli z tego świata w stanie łaski uświęcającej. Anioł Stróż chroni ży-cie dzieci i dorosłych, broni przed szatanem, pokusami i grzechem, posługuje się karami, stara się o nawrócenie duszy, zachęca do modlitwy i pomaga w niej, asystuje mo-dlącym się, poucza, pociesza, pomaga w czynieniu dobra i zachęca do wytrwania w dobru, zanosi nasze modlitwy i dobre uczynki przed tron Boga, sprowadza Boże błogosła-wieństwo, zapowiada zbliżającą się śmierć, czuwa w ostatniej godzinie, a po śmierci przenosi duszę do nieba.

byłeś przewodnikiem w niebezpiecznej wędrówce Tobiasza, czuwaj nad drogami naszego życia,

ostrzegaj przed niebezpieczeństwami, jakie nas zgubić mogą. Ty odpędzałeś demony i uzdrawiałeś mocą Bożą. Broń nas przed uległością złu, a gdy

zdrowie i życie nasze zagrożone będzie, wstawiaj się za nami u Boga, przedstawiaj nasze sprawy

i bądź nam pomocny. Amen.

1) Last week two of our parishioners Mrs. Karolina Stachniuk and Mrs. Ewa Nowak left for eternity. Funeral Masses were celebrated last Thursday, October 25. We ask you to remember Karolina and Ewa in your prayers. Eternal rest, grant unto her o Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.

2) In the month of November we pray for the deceased, who preceded us to eternity. The rosary for souls is Sunday before 9:30 mass.

3) Sunday, November 11th is the 100th anniversary of Poland's regaining independence. After 11:00 am Mass we invite you to a short program devoted to this important event in our history.

4) On Sunday, November 25th, after the Holy Mass at 11:00 am, we invite you to lunch .All proceeds will be used to help our church.

5) On November 17 and 18 , after the masses in the church hall, you will be able to buy fresh homemade pierogi. We encourage you to buy, all income from sales will be used to maintain our church.

1) W ubiegłym tygodniu do wieczności odeszły dwie nasze parafianki: Karolina Stachniuk i Ewa Nowak. Msza pogrzebowa była celebrowana w miniony czwartek 25 października. Prosimy o Karolinie i Ewie pamiętać w modlitwach. Wieczny odpoczynek racz im dać Panie a światłość wiekuista niechaj im świeci.

2) W miesiącu listopadzie modlimy się za zmarłych, którzy wyprzedzili nas do wieczności. Różaniec za dusze polecane w wypominkach we wtorki i piątki o 6:30 pm oraz w niedzielę przed mszą św.

3) W niedziele, 11 listopada przypada 100 lecie odzyskania przez Polskę niepodległości. Zaraz po mszy św. zapraszamy na krótki program poświęcony temu ważnemu w naszej historii wydarzeniu.

4) W niedzielę 25 listopada po mszy św. o godzinie 11:00 am zapraszamy na Lunch połączony z loterią fantowa. Dochód przeznaczony będzie na pomoc naszemu kościołowi.

5) W dniach 17 i 18 listopada po mszach św. w sali pod kościołem będzie możliwość zakupu świeżych, domowych pierogów. Zachęcamy do zakupu, cały dochód ze sprzedaży będzie przeznaczony na utrzymanie naszego kościoła.

a światłość wiekuista niechaj im świeci.
