Many of our new leaders and committees are now started in their work to move us forward in ministry and mission and I can feel God equipping us for our next steps in sharing the Gospel and kingdom-building! Working together and sharing our connection will be a large measure of our success, for we are truly in this together. Recently I met with John Hall, your Administrative Council chairperson, and we are in agreement that we need a better effort in 2019 with utilizing the Administrative Council quarterly meetings to inform and take action regarding the work of committees and ministry groups, and to bring all that we do under the umbrella of our mission as a United Methodist congregation. Participation as a church member, not just those who vote on the council, is important and essential. The Administrative Council is the place where ALL of us can learn the accomplishments and next steps of the church, participate in the holy conversation of our decisions, and share in the vision God is providing. This is NOT the place to leave everything up to those who vote and report, but a place to bring the family together and to bond in prayer, celebration, movement and direction. Please plan on YOUR participation in our first meeting of 2019, scheduled for 4:30 PM on Sunday, March 31 st in the Family Life Center. If you lead a committee, board or ministry group and have something for the agenda, please send word to the church office before March 24 so our meeting agenda can be organized and shared. Meanwhile, I lift again a request to our church family to pray for the Called General Conference of the UMC scheduled for February 22-24. The purpose of the conference is to complete the commission of the 2016 General Conference to seek “A Way Forward” for the UMC regarding doctrine and practice on issues of human sexuality. More information regarding plans to be considered are available in a handout in the church office. Links to information are there for you to stay connected and pray as information comes from the conference. Visit our primary news website of the United Methodist Church (www.umnews.org) and follow links there. Be on watch also for links on our Facebook Group page when our Texas Conference bishop, Scott Jones, communicates to leaders of the Texas Annual Conference via webinar both during the conference and after the conference. For now, please lift your prayers for a clear discernment of God’s will regarding the Church. Grace and Peace, Rev. METHODIST YOUTH FELLOWSHIP

To my wonderful

church family, I have

so many to thank.

To Richard who has

gone above and

beyond and who has

been with me and my family all through this

journey. To the Methodist men for the

poinseIa to brighten up my room, to the Heart

and Hands ladies for the lovely prayer shawl for Joyce, to the Santa’s Elf’s who covered my

outside pipes in case of a freeze and to the wonderful singers who came and sang the

beauful Christmas Carols to us. Thank you to the many who called and sent cards but most

importantly for all the prayers. I’m at home now. I’ve come a long way but sll have a

ways to go. You have all been so great. I’ve always known you were special. So again,

many, many thanks. Joyce and I hope to see you in church before too long. We love you

and may God bless you. -Curs Evans

Wondrous Love – Make a Joyful Noise

The Chancel Choir has begun rehearsals for our Easter Cantata,

“Wondrous Love”. It will be presented on Palm Sunday, April 14th as

part of the 9:00 am service. The Passion story of Christ is a love story. It

is the story of God sending His one and only Son – the Holy Lamb of God

– to redeem all of humanity in a sacrificial act of love so that we might

be eternally united with the Creator of the universe.

The disciple John penned these words: "This is love: not that we loved

God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for

our sins" (1 John 4:9-10).

Consider this your invitaon to join in

the wonderful musical telling of God’s

sacrificial act of love for us through

Jesus Christ.

Rehearsals are Wednesday night at

6:30 pm in the Choir Room located in

the Welcome Center.

Come, lend your voice and make a

joyful noise to the Lord.

I Got YouI Got YouI Got YouI Got You

A few lyrics of a song titled “I Got You, that I perform, is a personal note of support to someone special: “I got you. I got everything… when the weight’s too much alone… when tomorrow’s too much, I’ll carry it all. I’ve got you.”

I am reminded of when the Children of Israel had come to what seemed like the end of their journey on the banks of Jordan, Moses told them to go on ahead… They began to wonder what would happen to them next, and the Lord said tell them… “Be strong and of a good courage do not fear, nor be afraid: for the LORD your God is the One who goes with you; He will not fail you, nor forsake you… (Deut 31:6)” In other words He’s saying, “I Got You”.

A few Scriptures: Isaiah 59; “My Spirit will not depart from you.” Psalm 55:22; “Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you.” Joshua 1:9; “Do not be frightened, do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you.”

So, when we think we’re alone, God is with us. No matter the circumstances, God is saying to each of us, “I Got You”.

Come Sunday to here God’s love for us through Jesus Christ proclaimed.

-Otis

I just want to take a second to brag on our youth and their parents. They make this church and the youth group a priority in their busy lives. Between school, basketball, FFA, swim meets, family time, power lifting, debate, work, play practice, band, softball and everything else these kids do, these kids choose to make sure they are free for youth group on Sundays. Their parents go above and beyond everything I ask of them, for example, making sure that our Super Bowl party is a success by sending all kinds of delicious eats and treats with their kids, volunteering to cook on Sunday evenings throughout the year, and making sure that they are available to bring their kids to and from youth group. It seems like sometimes it would be so much easier to just stay home and catch your breath, but to these kids and parents, they have found something that they love and desire to be a part of every week. I thank God for these kids, and I thank Him for making Pleasant Retreat their home church.

-Jeremy

Thank you to everyone that gave an extra offering for
