PLEASANT NEWS
Jalane White [email protected]
Hello everyone. Diligence, hard work, and the grace of God, leads to good outcomes.
This past month has been interesting as it relates to COVID-19. We had some individuals at PVH who had no symptoms and tested positive and
were then were retested and came up negative. So, for now, we are maintaining all precautions at the highest level to protect residents and staff, and we continue to keep our facility COVID free. The McPherson
County Health Department has been working closely with PVH throughout this experience. We are feeling optimistic that we will be
working through our reopening plan soon.
In the meantime, Tom our Maintenance Director and his crew are working on a plexiglass visiting area that will make it much easier to
enjoy safe family visits. The closed window visits are still available, and the window intercoms make it easy to hear. Staff have been creative in using laptops and iPads for FaceTime experiences. We have some new portable phones that are available for calls. We are looking at using an
electronic messaging system, soon, to facilitate family notifications.
All nursing homes in Kansas are being inspected for COVID preparedness and care practices. We are proud that we had our
inspection and there were no deficiencies. A great deal of time, energy, and expertise went into building a strong infection control program.
Congratulations to our staff on a job well done.
Continue to keep us in your prayers. We will be needing more cloth face masks, so if you have a resource or know someone who likes to make
them, send them our way.

• Right to choose or refuse to perform services for facility and facility will not require a resident to perform services for facility

Do you have an important prayer request? A Prayer Box is available for residents, staff, and friends to submit Prayer Requests. The box is located next to the water fountain, near the south entrance. The
Chaplain’s Prayer Team will check it daily, and pray for these requests.
Since joining the PVH team on June 1st, I have been welcomed with social-distancing arms and am thrilled to work with you! Being new, I cannot begin to understand
what the last few months have felt like for you, but I want you to know that I am here to help in any way I can while continuing to ensure everyone’s safety. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to me.

Chaplain’s Article
2 Timothy 3:1-3 NIV But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves…unholy…without self-control…treacherous.
How would you describe the last six months of your life? How would
you describe the events occurring in America and the world in the last six months? Challenging, alarming, scary, depressing are a few of the
words that come to my mind. Here is another word: Prophetic. Prophets like Daniel, Jesus, the apostles Paul and John, describe what the world will be like in the last days; and the words they used should alarm us
and cause us to take note. What we are witnessing in the world today is a “wake-up call” – you can’t straddle the fence anymore. It’s a time to
stand up: we must speak up for the truth of the gospel. We must engage in gospel activity, leading both youth and adults to the One who speaks absolute truth, who gave His life as a ransom for mankind. His
name is Jesus!
Are you distressed and worried about current events? Such responses are natural; but try this: Take each worry and each stress; write down its
name on a sheet of paper, and bring it before the Lord Jesus, and let Him take care of it. He is eminently qualified to handle any matter of our concern. Writing from a prison cell in Rome, Paul encouraged believers in Philippi with these words (4:6): “Do not be anxious about anything;
but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God; and the peace of God which transcends all
understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
Because of the Covid virus outbreak, no chapel services will be held in the month of July. I encourage each believer to listen to good Christian music and good biblical preaching to feed your soul. Be sure to attend a
gospel preaching church or watch a gospel service on television. Since the June report, the following have passed on to receive their
eternal reward: 1) Jacqueline Stade on May 29; 2) Virginia Kenney on May 30; 3) Josephine Willems on June 3; and 4) Alden Brenneis on June
18. May those of us left behind prepare our hearts for eternity by trusting in the only Savior, the Lord Jesus.
Cottonwood Corner Hello July and all our friends and
family reading this letter! The temperatures in June kind of felt like
July so I guess we’re ready for the hot months now! Barbara loves talking to her husband Pat anyway she can and
in this picture he came out to the sidewalk and they had a good visit thru the phones! Thank
you Sheri Plett for making a “Thank You” sign on her
computer for all of the staff here on Cottonwood. She spent a lot of time and effort to make this
neat collage for the staff here. You know when you stay at home all
the time, you don’t even have to get fancy for your birthday! So when
Lorene’s beautiful birthday cake arrived, she enjoyed it curlers and
all!! Love this lady!
Becky Burkholder, SSD
We spend our time just enjoying each day with your loved ones! We laugh at almost nothing and
listen to every story the residents can remember! We play games
with them and pray with them. I appreciate the
Chaplain who comes to our neighborhood each day and
all that he brings thru encouragement and
listening ears. We have the best 7 Fathers/Uncles
living right here on Cottonwood! We made their day special with a
Father’s Day lunch of Pot Roast/Baked Ham & Chocolate Chess Pie!
All the men were given a special card & gift from the neighborhood. May you all be safe during the 4th of July & I’m not going to lie...we
miss you so much!

HARVEST HOUSE June
For the month of June we got outside every chance we could get.
Visiting with one another, soaking in the sunshine, and taking a look at the
beautiful flower gardens.
Our birthday this month was Phyllis Cooper’s. She turned 97 years old on
the 2nd. We also celebrated the fathers of Harvest House: Ted
Schletzbaum, Darold Bradford. and Harvey Goertzen for Father’s Day. We
are keeping ourselves busy with movies, scrapbooking, and
anything else we can get our hands on. Soon we will see each
other again.

We hope you all have been enjoying your summer so far. We are trying to enjoy our summer in quaran-tine. Boy, we can hardly wait to see our family and friends again. At the end of May we said a good bye that we are never prepared to say. Our loved one, Virginia Kenney joined our Father in Heaven. We will miss Virginia sharing her cooking wisdom with us. Virginia sure had a wealth of cooking knowledge as she served many children at Inman Grade School for years. We will miss Virginia and her family dearly. Please join us in welcoming a new family member, Betty June Fuqua to our household. Betty comes to us from the Estates. We are looking forward to getting to Betty and her family. As we enter into July, we prepare to celebrate our loved one Carolyn!!!! Carolyn celebrates her birthday with America!! What a FUN day to have a birthday. Happy June Birthday to our very own Kristin!! Kristin is a CMA on dayshift.

AND THEIR OFF! Liz jumped out in the lead right away but
Marilyn and Juanita was hot on her tail. Poor Alvin took his
time and stopped to smell the roses. But in the end Bill with
his nice steady rolls snuck past with 2 points for the win! We
had a great time with our horse race with dice. They came
up with their own names with some being an old family pet
name and most of the
residents competed.
We had names like
Secretariat, Babe, Babe
2, Lucky, Two for the
Money and even one
named Pet. Bill’s winner
was called Sugar. Way
to go Sugar!
