Pleasant News
It’s that time of year….The grass is green and growing, trees are blooming and we are preparing for evaluations. It only seems like yesterday, we learned that we were recognized for another successful year in the PEAK program, and now it’s time for the next round of evaluations. We have sent in our paperwork, we will soon have our ZOOM meeting, and then it will be time for the on-site evalua-tion. Secondly, but certainly not a little thing, is the annual Kansas Depart-ment of Aging and Disabilities survey. We never know when they will show up, so we continue to stay prepared.
A big thank you to everyone who pitched in and helped in our quest to evacuate residents from Pleasant Hills to Pleasant View at the time of the wild fires in the Hutchinson area. We appreciate the vigilance of the emergency services in Reno County and beyond, who worked tirelessly to protect lives and property during a difficult time. A special thanks to Sydni Kretzer, Brittany Schultz, Britt McClel-
land, Madison Desmond, Beth Heidari, Chris McClelland, Tod
Ritcha, Roger Anderson, Kat Jennings, and David Jennings for being
there at the time of the evacuation to help quickly move our residents at
Pleasant Hills to safety.

Welcome Spring...Did you come in like a Lion or a Lamb? I
guess that is to be seen at the end of March! I hope eve-
ryone is having a wonderful and productive 2017 so far. Below I wanted
to discuss the benefits of resistance training, which does not mean that
you HAVE to use heavy dumbbells and weights or spend long hours in
the gym, I have also included a small article about how to prevent low
back pain. I hope these help give you more insight to questions you
may have had about these issues!! If you have any questions, contact
me in the Wellness Center/Activity Room of Pleasant View Home.
Resistance Training Reduces the Risk of Chronic Diseases
ACSM’s Health & Fitness Journal, 2016 Resistance training reduces the incidence of many chronic diseases and
improves the quality of life in people who have them. A review conclud-
ed that resistance exercise can reduce cardiovascular disease risk fac-
tors, improve quality of life in cancer patients, enhance lung function in
chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, improve blood sugar
control in type 2 diabetes, increase functional capacity in
Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis, decreased muscle
pain in fibromyalgia and improve physical function in HIV/
AIDS. The intensity of weight training in people with chronic
disease must be matched with their physical capacities.
How to Prevent Low Back Pain
JAMAICA Internal Medicine, 1/11/16 More than 85 percent of Americans will experience low back pain. Back
ache is the second most common cause for sick days in the workplace
(headache is number one). Most cases of back pain stem from poorly
trained core muscles that put pressure on nerve roots leaving the spine.
A review concluded that exercise plus proper spinal biomechanics are
moderately effective for reducing the incidence of low back pain and
the use of sick leave. Popular back pain preventive methods such as
back braces, shoe insoles and lifting belts are ineffective. Studies show
that core-strengthening exercises such as side-bridges,
stir-the-pot, bird-dogs and Pallof presses are extremely
effective for treating and reducing the incidence of
back pain. People must do these exercises regularly to
get results.

East View Villa and Estates Activities
Hello and Greetings to our friends in the Estates and East View Villa! Wow what a weather change—love the nice spring weather!! March had lots of fun activities and events. Ben Schierling was our Es-tates Program with guitar and piano playing. We heard Irish songs and songs that glorify God. We got our hands pampered and our fingernails painted. For our St Patrick’s Day celebration we made wreaths, brace-lets, and spinners while eating a few snacks. National Pancake Day was a success with eating lots of pancakes at IHOP and delivering IHOP short stacks for supper. Birds of Prey-Falconry visited with 3 hawks, lots of equipment, and taught us about hawks and how to hunt with them. Therapy dogs made a visit from the Hutchinson Kennel Club. We cele-brated National Chip & Dip Day and National Crayola Crayon Day. We have lots of fun activities going on in April: Crafts, Guatemala Presen-tation, Brad Shore-playing steel drums, MCC Sale, Bowling & Pizza, Pleas-ant View Shopping & Dutch Kitchen Lunch Trip, Wheat Watching, FFA at the City Pasture, Stutzman & Lunch Trip, Arbor Day, Inman Car Show, Kansas Mens Mennonite Choir, Carmel and Licorice day celebrations, Women’s Health Fair in Hutchinson. Our FingerNail and Foot therapy continues to be a big success and we are adding days for appointments. Also Ralph Andrus is celebrating his 100th birthday. Impromptu trips we will take as the weather allows...As always look for flyers and signups. As the warm weather gets underway, kids will be out playing. Please be sure to watch when walking/driving for our next generations. As always I would love to hear what you love to do. Have a blessed month, Jennifer Wilson ext 150 Life Enrichment Coordinator [email protected]

Who’s New? Who’s Old?
Hosea 6:1, 4 NIV “Come, let us return to the LORD. He has torn us to pieces; but He
will heal us; He has injured us; but He will bind up our wounds”….”What can I do with you, Ephraim? What can I do with you, Judah? Your love
is like the morning mist, like the early dew that disappears.”
Some of you recently read the same devotional that I did from Our Daily Bread (March 21); the author presented some intriguing thoughts from Hosea, chapter 6, which caught my attention. For background, the prophet Hosea ex-horted his audience to repent of their worship of idols; if that charge wasn’t bad enough, he also indicted them for “killing…stealing and committing adultery…break[ing] all restraint” (Hosea 4:2). Sounds much like America; but now the people seem to be listening to him; listen to their words, “Come…let us return to the LORD” (6:1). Sounds good; but the LORD saw their true heart; He saw that their love and devotion to Him (6:4) was transitory, like the mist of the morning. In this season of the year, do we make promises to the Lord, only to forget them when the calendar is turned to the next month? Let us all ask the Lord for His help in overcoming our “besetting sin,” wrestle with it, and take action to put it from us! Since the last publication, the Inman community has lost some dear friends. In each case, the departed one leaves behind fond memories by family members and friends; they have departed to their eternal reward. At such moments I am reminded of the proverb: “Only one life, twill soon be past. Only what’s done for Christ will last;” and only the life trusting in the Savior’s grace will experi-ence eternal life. Thus we remember these departed ones: 1) Nick Schmidt (February 27); 2) Auda Ruth Faulkner (March 2); 3) JoAnn Zumalt (March 14); and Adeline Froese (March 17). Ministering at the weekly Chapel Services in April will be the following: 1)
April 6, Buhler Mennonite Church; 2) April 13, Special Passion Week Service;
3) April 20, Zoar Mennonite Brethren Church; and 4) April 27, Zion Church of
God in Christ Mennonite Church. In keeping with the celebration of this Holy
Week, the Inman Ministerial Association (IMA) is hosting its annual Palm Sun-
day Service, this year being held at Zoar Mennonite Church, April 9 at 7:00
P.M. Special music will be provided by the combined choirs of community
singers and the Inman High school chorus. Also, on Thursday April 13 at 3:00
P.M. the IMA will also be serving the Lord’s Supper to residents of Pleasant
View Home. Above all, we ENCOURAGE YOU to attend your church of
choice to worship the crucified and risen Savior at the appointed Good Friday
and Easter Sunday Services.

Cottonwood Corner March started out so normal….here to the right is a good picture of how our transportation guys can sometimes get in on our fun!!! After taking a large group to Walmart, they still had time to grab a bite to eat with us at Fazolis before safely transporting resi-dents to and fro. We filled up 3 tables that
day! On Cottonwood we have a co-worker who loves any animal that breathes…Mandy is showing Amanda a baby squirrel that she rescued and is feeding. Taking the picture was close enough for me! Lorene managed to get some shopping done at Et Cetra shop in Hutchinson this month and below Alberta joined others in a game of
ring toss that was more challenging that it looked! I want to say a “thankyou” to our Chaplin Dave for faithful-ly leading a Bible Study each Mon-day morning
which is very much appreciated. Have you tried out the latest new restaurant in Hutch? We did, and thought Chick-fil-A was very tasty!!
Cottonwood definitely made the most of March. We made 2 different St. Patty’s Day crafts that were fun. We made Spring jewelry and on these two pictures to the left we made “ties” for all of us to wear on St. Patricks day.
The Gals came up with some real-ly cute sayings on the ties!
We played a game called Lucky 7 and I do believe
that we all came out pretty lucky!!
Look at this April cal-endar and you will see
that we are going to Stutzmans to pick out flowers and eat at Dutch Kitchens on April 24. All fami-lies are invited and welcome!!! It is so
much fun, a day you don’t want to miss with your loved one. Please email or call me if you can walk around Stutzmans with your family member & eat with us! Went bowling this week and made some noise with our strikes!! Cliff & his wife Sherry owners of Starlight Lanes in McPherson have gone above & beyond to us when we bowl there! They are a true & caring cou-ple for special needs kids and for the elder-
ly. As I mentioned earlier, March started out pretty normal but didn’t end up that way. My good co-worker friend Michele here in the office whom I do all my travel-ing activities with lost her husband suddenly last week. Tom also worked here at PVH for almost 20 years. Michele is an awesome Mom to 4 beautiful children and 2 grandbabies that all live at home still. Please pray for her. May God give her family peace.

APRIL 2017
The Plaza Calendar is subject to change
The Plaza
We are so happy that Spring is finally here and that warmer temperatures are on their way, and that the fires have been contained. Thank you to all that helped with the evacuation of Pleasant Hills. A lot of people have lost homes, properties and animals. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this time of loss and rebuilding. Plaza had to say a hard tearful goodbye to JoAnn Zumalt on March 14th. She will be greatly missed but we rest assured she is enjoying her Heavenly home. We took a bus full of residents to IHOP for breakfast this month and we had fun eating pancakes and eggs. This month we will be going to Village Inn on the 5th of April and to the Stutzman Gardens and to the Dutch Kitchen on the 19th. Our take-out Tuesdays will be on the 11th and the 25th of April. Plaza is going to have on a trial basis a quiet Zen room. We will have aroma therapy, plants and a fish tank. This will be a room where residents can go if they want quieter place with-out a TV and lots of residents around. We celebrated Jonnie Sidebottom's and Paulette Rumps birthdays in March and we will be celebrating Rachel Neufeld’s birthday on April 30th. Plaza welcomed John Click to our Plaza neighborhood. We look forward to getting to know him. Now that the weather is warmer we will be venturing out more to eat and for some country drives. As always if you have any questions or concerns feel free to call or email me anytime.
