Th!: reading center and workshop w:ll be held at Sunnydalc Elementary School, 15631 Eig hth Ave. South, Seattle 88, in the H ighlinc Sc hool District .

Thcr' will br: several groups of children rangin!,\, in age from third grade to beginning high school. The college students will be assigned to a c.Iassroom teacher at the centcr and will work with a small group of ch ildren, for the four and one-half we(·k session, under the supervision of the classroom teacher, the supervisor of the reading center, and the college supervisor. The work is carried on from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon daily. At :!:OO p.m. the students meet again in workshop (Education 4't')) for a clinical study of the reading problems �nd to work on suggestive corrective l:lc;tSUres. The supervisor will be }vIr. Wal­tt'r Carsten. He wiLl also be th,' supervisor representing tht: college.

In order that plans may be completed before the opening of the reading centns it is necessary to have advanced rt'gistration. A deposit fct' of five dol­lars should be paiel hefore june 1 and not later than june 0. At the time this deposit is mad .. the student should give his first and s('('ond ('hoice of age groups for the center. JlINIOR HIGH SCHOOL BLOCK-OF-TIME

June 20 - July 1

Mrs. Fay Crciffcnbcrg, who has had successful experience in teaching the block-of-time program, will direct this workshop. Special emphasis will be on working with a social studics and English combination coordinated with onc other subject. There will be some demonstration with students.

EVEN ING CLASSES

In response to requests frol11 teachers within COInBluting distance of the College who have other responsibilitics during the summer, the College is offer­ing two evening classes during the first term of the summer session. These courses (Psychological Testing" and Mental Health for Teachers) may be taken for either education or psychology credit and are offl'fcd for uppn division ,Ind grad uate credit. See description of courses.

LOCATION

Pacific Lutheran College, the only Lutheran senior college On the entire Pacific Coast, is located in Parkland, a suburb of Tacorna, an attractive city of about 160,000 inhabitants; it is ncar Mount Rainier and the Narrows Bridge, third largest suspension bridge in the world.

The I 25-acre colle ,'C campus is situated in the heart of the E"crgreen Play­ground where there is a healthful climate and b"autiful scenery. Railroads and highways make the college easily accessible from all parts of the country. Ta­coma city buses run regularly to and from downtown and stop in front of the campus.

ACCREDITATION

Pacific Lutheran College is fully accredited by the Northwest Association of Secondary and Higher Schools as a four-year liberal arts college. In addition, the College is accredited by the Washington State Board of Education and holds provisional accreditation by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education for the preparation of elementary and secondary teachers with the Masters Degree as the highest degree approved. This accreditation gives Pacific Lutheran graduates clear reciprocity in many other states.

Pacific Lutheran College recommends its graduates to the State Superin­

tendent of Public Instruction for certificates. The Colleg' is a member of the Association of American Colleges, the American Council of Education, and the :\'ational Lutheran Educational Conference.

REGISTRATION

Students who are not within commuting distance of th,' college may pre­register by fill ing out thl' form on page 29 and mailing it to the Office of the Registrar. This form must reach the college not lall'r than June II.

Students within commuting distance may register at the college any time after May 15.

Students who desire a transcript to bf; evaluated or who need a progress chart brought up to date must call at the office by appointment prior to June 15.

Registration for the first term mllst be completed by Saturday, June 18.

Registration for the second term must be completed by \Vedncsday, July 20.

Students planning to attend the entire summer session should complete reg-i�tration for both terms at the time of the initial registration.

COLLEGE FACILITIES

The College maintains do rmitories for students. All students r('gistering [or rooms in any of these dormitories are required to c on tinue in the same throughout the tC'rm . The dormitory rooms arc furnished. StuciP nts provide their own pillows, mattress covers, blankets, sheets, pillow cases, towels, rugs, 2nd other furnishings to thr·ir own taste. Occupants are he ld responsible for hrf'akage or damage to th f' room or its furnishings.

West Hall . lowly dormitory for women, has been set aside for the usc of summer session studf'n ts. Nlost of the rooms accommodate tw o students, but single rooms an' p ro vided as much as possible .

This dormitory has one large lounge equipped with kitchenette and a tele­yision sd. There are two smaller lounges w i th pullman kitc ht'ns, a n d laund ry facilities with a u toma t ic washers and dryers.

HOUSING FOR MARRIED STUDENTS

The College maintains 1 2 ap�rtmcnts on the campus for married students. Othcr apartments arc available in Park land and Tacoma. The College cannot guarantee housing for its married stud,'nts; however, every effort will be made to hav!' sufficient housing available. Students desiring housing should write to the Dean of Men before Jum' 1.

BOARDING CLUB

All studrnt. living in the college dormitories are normally [f'quired to cat

ir. the college dining hall. Exceptions may be made during th,' summer session, ir. which cas,' a fair adjustment will be made on the cost of room and board per term.

Students w i ll eat in the College Union dining hall. No meals will be served on Saturdays or Sundays.

RECREATION

The Pacific Luth ..... an College campus cnjoys th geographical advantage of being in the center of a large. recreation arca. The College is j ust two blocks off the main highway to Mt. Rainier, internationally known mountain resort. Ski areas, salt or fresh water swimming, picnic grounds. and outdoor athletic facilities are accessible.

CHAPEL EXERCISES

Chapel exercises will be held at 9:50 a.m. each Tuesday and Thursday morning in the Chapd.

BOOKSTORE

The College maintains a hookston' for tlw conv�niencc of th" students when' books, stationery and school supplies may be obtained. Located in the College Union, this facility is run on the self-scrvicc principk. All sales arc en a st rictly cash hasis.

OUTDOOR SPORTS FACILITIES
