An Overview of Play LibrariesThis document covers topics related to Play Libraries, including the amount of space each require, a comparison of the different available editions (Silver, Gold, Platinum, Platinum Plus, Diamond) and the Play Libraries included in each ComposerCloud plan.

Space RequirementsThe values here are rounded up to the nearest gigabyte (GB) in order to ensure enough hard drive space is available. Please note that because operating systems and hard drive formats read file sizes differently, the numbers here represent an approximation. We also recommend following the standard practice of leaving at least 10% of the space free on your hard drive.

Regarding Hard DrivesPlay streams large amounts of samples from a hard drive in real-time, so it’s important to consider the best options available to avoid potential bottlenecks. A dedicated hard drive that is not the operating system drive is highly recommended, especially with large libraries like the Hollywood Orchestra Diamond Edition.

The hard drive you stream samples from must run at least 7200 rpm. Many portable USB hard drives and “green” energy-saving drives only run at 5400 rpm, which will likely cause poor performance.

The best option is a Solid State Drive (SSD), which offers quick loading times and over-all performance during playback. While more expensive than a mechanical drive, it’s a worthy investment.

Delivery OptionsNearly all Play Libraries can be downloaded via the Installation Center application, except some of the larger Diamond and Platinum edition Play Libraries. These Play Libraries ap-pear in the Installation Center with a “From HD” icon, and are currently only available on the CC Plus Sound Data HD, which contains the Diamond/Platinum Editions of Play Libraries.

A CC Gold Sound Data HD is also availalble containing the Gold Editions of Play Libraries. This is ideal for those looking for a portable USB 3.0 drive running at 7200 rpm, or those lacking an ideal internet connection.

UpgradesThose with a Gold Edition license can upgrade to the Diamond/Platinum Edition license (and receive extra content) by contacting EastWest. Details about upgrading are avail-able on the Soundsonline.com website.

Comparison of Editions Some Play Libraries are released in multiple editions to allow those with less capable systems, or those looking for most of the features with a smaller price tag, access to the same basic soundset.

DiamondDiamond Edition libraries include the Hollywood Orchestra Series, the Hollywood Solo Instruments Series, and the Hollywood Choirs. They feature 24-bit samples and 5 micro-phone positions.

Platinum (Plus)Platinum Edition libraries include the Symphonic Orchestra, Symphonic Choirs and Pia-nos, and features 24-bit samples and 3 microphone positions.

In addition, the Symphonic Orchestra users can upgrade to the Platinum Plus Edition that allows you to switch bewteen 24-bit and 16-bit samples to save resources during different stages of the production process (writing and mixdown).

GoldGold Editions are mostly a subset of the Platinum and Diamond Editions, and are avail-able by download from the EW Installation Center. They come with 16-bit samples and 1 microphone position.

This list of instruments and articulations between the Gold and Platinum/Diamond Edi-tions are the same, with the exception of Hollywood Strings, which contains ‘Bow Change Legato’ and ‘Divisi’ instruments that are not contained in the Gold and Silver Editions.

SilverSilver Editions libraries feature 16-bit samples, 1 microphone position and a selection of instruments and articulations. It is ideal for beginners or those only in need of essential articulations.

Multi-Edition LibrariesThese Play Libraries are the largest in EastWest’s catalog. They are deeply sampled, feature multiple microphone positions, and contain a wide range of instruments and articulations. Please see above for details regarding the differences between editions.

Play Libraries Included in ComposerCloud Each ComposerCloud plan features a different edition (Gold, GoldX, Platinum/Diamond) for Play Libraries that are released in multiple editions (like the Hollywood Series, the Symphonic Series, and the Pianos Collection).

Also included in each ComposerCloud plan are all single-edition Play Libraries, a large selection of the 25th Anniversary Collection, Spaces Convolution Reverb and the MIDI Guitar Instruments Series.
