Routing Protocol(HSRP) should be usedin secondary activities
The Domain Controller isresponsible for propagating thesystem time to computers andnetwork infrastructure devices.
Network Time Protocol (NTP)source can be internal orexternal, the GPS source
(internal) is preferable in systemwhere the time synchronization
is critical
The PlantPAx Distributed ControlSystem is a modern DCS which isscalable, flexible, and open whileproviding the reliability, functionality, and performance expected from aDCS. The PlantPAx System is capableof integrating control systems onprocess skidded equipment, processinstrumentation, intelligent motorcontrol and intelligent electricalprotection devices. This drawingdepicts a typical referencearchitecture for the PlantPAx System.
Skids of electrical protectiondevices can now be easily
integrated into the PlantPAxSystem providing a holistic viewof your plant’s operations frompower infrastructure throughprocess control equipment.

The dashed box represents the IntelliCENTER Integration Unit is a configured to order product provided by Rockwell Automation to interface the plant control system with the power distribution system via the IEC 61850 standard. The integration unit is flexible and configurable based upon the needs for your powermanagement and electrical SCADA system. For more information on the configuration options for the IntelliCENTER Integration Unit please see http://literature.rockwellautomation.com/idc/groups/literature/documents/rm/3300a-rm001_-en-p.pdf or your local distributor or Rockwell Automation representative. This architecture drawing represents the IntelliCENTER Integration Unit interfacing over a trusted network to the larger control system.
The Allen-Bradley® Stratix 5700™ is a compact, scalableLayer 2 managed switch with embedded Cisco technologyfor use in applications with small isolated, to complexnetworks. With integration into Studio 5000 AutomationEngineering and Design Environment™, you can leverageFactoryTalk® View faceplates and Add-on Profiles forsimplified configuration and monitoring.By choosing a switch co-developed by RockwellAutomation and Cisco, your Operations Technology (OT)and Information Technology (IT) professionals leveragetools and technology that are familiar to them. Thiscollaboration can also help to reduce configuration timeand cost.
The ProSoft PLX82-EIP61850 is a stand alone gateway module that is capable of converting IEC 61850 traffic to EtherNet/IP traffic to be consumed by the Rockwell Automation control system. This module acts as an IEC 61850 MMS client and IEC 61850 GOOSE Subscriber. The IEC 61850 information is configured and exports Add On Instructions (AOIs) that are consumed by the controller. For sizing of the ProSoft Modules see the IntelliCENTERIntegration Unit Reference Manual. For more information on the ProSoft Gateway Module see: https://www.prosoft-technology.com/ Products/Gateways/EtherNet-IP/EtherNet-IP-Server-to-IEC- 61850-Client-Gateway
Skids of electrical protection devices can now be easilyintegrated into the PlantPAx system providing a holisticview of your plant’s operations from power infrastructurethrough process control equipment.
When designing an IEC 61850 network make surethat the network infrastructure supports the protocolswithin the standard. Rockwell Automation recommendsusing the Cisco IE 2000U as it supports an IED SmartportMacro and prioritizes IEC 61850 within its Quality ofService. More information about the IE 2000U pleasefollow: https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/switches/industrial-ethernet-2000u-series-switches/index.html
IEDs or Intelligent Electrical Devices are devices that haveprotective electrical functions or metering capabilities. These devices then communicate this information via anEthernet network. This drawing represents IEDscommunicating to the IntelliCENTER Integration Unit viathe IEC 61850 standard. The PlantPAx Library for ElectricalProtection Devices hosts a variety of faceplates thatvisually represent IEDs. This library can be found athttp://literature/rockwellautomation.com/idc/groups/literature/documents/rm//process-rm011-en-p.pdf/

Untrusted Network Typical
In a typical untrusted Wide Area Network, the networkinfrastructure between Point A and Point B is not owned bythe user. This media is often shared with other networktraffic and therefore is known as an untrusted network. The IntelliCENTER Integration Unit can be configured tohand this network topology by adding a Stratix 5950Security Appliance as the interface between the IntegrationUnit and the untrusted network.
The IntelliCENTER Integration Unit is a configured to orderproduct provided by Rockwell Automation to interface theplant control system with the power distribution systemvia the IEC 61850 standard. The integration unit is flexibleand configurable based upon the needs for your powermanagement and electrical SCADA system. For moreinformation on the configuration options for theIntelliCENTER Integration Unit please see www.ab.com/product_name_here or your local distributor or RockwellAutomation representative. This architecture drawingrepresents the IntelliCENTER Integration Unit interfacingover an un-trusted network to the larger control system.

Electrical Distribution System Typical
The Allen-Bradley® Stratix® 5950 security appliancecombines several enhanced security functions into a singleappliance to help protect your industrial automationinfrastructure.
The Stratix 5950 security appliance leverages Cisco ASAFirewall technology, which provides the ability to controlnetwork traffic through configured security rules. CiscoFirePOWER™technology in the Stratix 5950 provides anIntrusion Prevention System (IPS) used to detect andcontrol application-level network communications andpotentially malicious traffic communicating through thenetwork.
