Plant Health & Biosecurity strategy WHY?
•The development of a Plant Health Strategy is
one of the DAFM High Level Priorities for 2018
•DAFM Statement of Strategy goal 1.1.1 points
to developing:
“with stakeholders effective animal and plant
health strategies and support appropriate
research and innovation in production and
processing”.

• Agreement of the DG Sante package in 2016 which includes the new Plant Health Regulations and Official Control Regulations
• Tertiary legislative discussions ongoing until 2019
• Commission focus on Plant Health awareness and capacity building

Plant Health as described in the recent (FAO) IPPC framework consultation:
• Facilitate economic growth and Trade developments
• Enhance Biosecurity and protect sustainable agriculture/horticulture
• Protect the Environment, forest and ecosystem (including Climate change impacts)
