Michigan Model Evaluation Grades 4-5 Two year, randomized control study, 52 schools, 321

teachers, 2500 students followed for two years Program and control groups Program group taught:

Social and emotional health Nutrition and physical activity Safety Alcohol and other drugs

Students who received the Michigan Model Better interpersonal communication skills, social

emotional skills, and self management skills Improved pro-health and pro-safety attitudes Stronger drug and tobacco refusal skills Later age of first cigarette use Lower recent ATOD use and aggressive behavior Enhanced knowledge about hazards of drugs Reduced intention to use alcohol and smoke Increased knowledge and skills in physical activity and
