Definition of Goal Setting
Goal setting is the process of identifying something that you want to accomplish and establishing measurable goals and timeframes.
Types of GoalsLong Term Goals: 10-year, 5-year and 1-year
Short Term Goals: Goals for the next 9 months, 6 months and 3 months
Immediate Goals: 1-30 days from now

The Goal Setting Process
Step 1- Identify an area that needs improvement.
Step 2- Write a SMART goal.
Step 3- Create an action plan.
Step 4- Identify roadblocks and possible solutions.
Step 5- Evaluate.
SMART GoalsS- Specific: Your goal should be clear to anyone. What? Who? When? Where? Which?
M- Measurable: How will I determine when it is reached? How many? How much?
A- Attainable: Is your goal realistic?
R- Ensure that your goal is something that is important to you.
T- Time-Bound: When will you complete this step?
SMART Goal PracticeS- I want to improve my fitness level with running.
M- 1 mile at an 8:23 pace so I can make the gold fitness level.
A- I will run three days per week.
R- Frequent running is relevant to my goal of becoming a healthy adolescent.
T- 7 months from today (Post-Test)
By the April 2016, I will be able to run one mile at an 8:23 pace. I will have achieved this goal by running three days per week.
