planning a trip to south africa

PLANNING A TRIP TO SOUTH AFRICA 1. You will fly into Johannesburg and out of Cape Town. Choose the places you want to visit (Maybe a Safari and then go to the Beach? Which cities do you want to visit?) Circle them on the map. 2. You need to give these cities a Position Vector or grid reference. You fly into Johannesburg, so this is 0. Count the squares on the grid. Write on the map. 3. Plan a sensible route between the places. Draw lines between them on the map. Add arrows to show your direction. 4. You will be driving between all the places on your trip. You need to make instructions for your Sat Nav system to tell it where you will go. You fly into Johannesburg, so this will be point 0. Using the grid on the map you must create 2 dimensional Displacement Vectors that describe your route. 1 grid can be 1 number. Write in the table below. 5. You need to know the distance between each place. You need to find the Magnitude of each Vector. City 1 and Position Vector City 2 and Position Vector Displacement Vector Magnitude 6. Using compass directions with vectors is too vague, more precise directions can be given by calculating the Scalar Product or angle between the vectors. 7. Compass points N, S, E, W are at 90°angles to each other. You must identify Vectors that are Perpendicular or at 90° to each other.
