Know where to get help If you have a question about commencing your study at UQ you can chat with student volunteers who can assist you with a range of topics through UQ Connect-U program www.uq.edu.au/international-students/connect-u. Apply for your student visa Now that you have received your electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE), you will need to submit this to your nearest Australian Embassy, Consulate or High Commission, along with your completed visa application form – www. border.gov.au/about/contact/offices-locations  Student Visa charges can be found online www.border.gov.au/Trav/Visa/Fees It is important that you are familiar with the details of your program and have an understanding of the courses you intend to study, you may need this information when applying for your visa. 4. Activate your student account You, or your agent (if you have applied through one), will be sent an email with an activation link. Please note, some courses are very competitive and can fill quickly so it advised that you make yourself available a few minutes prior to sign-on time in order to try and secure a place. Plan your arrival dates It is recommended that you arrive at least two weeks before classes start as you must attend compulsory sessions during Orientation Week (O’Week). Plan your accommodation UQ highly recommends that you wait until you have arrived in Australia to organise long-term accommodation and book temporary accommodation before you leave your home country. 8. Book Airport Pick-upIf you are a new student (including students with an ICTEUQ Package Offer), UQ will provide free transportation from the Brisbane domestic/international airport to your accommodation. Please note airport pick-up is not available from the Gold Coast – Coolangatta airport.

To book you will need to provide your flight details, arrival time and a Brisbane postal address. Once your airport reception request has been processed you will receive a confirmation email, please check your junk mail or spam folder if you do receive your confirmation email. Please make sure that you book airport reception at least three business days prior to your arrival.

9. Check your OSHC policy You will need to check your OSHC policy for any pre-existing conditions that may not be covered and seek appropriate medical advice. Please note that not all auxiliary medical services may be covered under your policy (eg: dental and optometry).

After you arrive

10. Attend a compulsory Getting Started SessionAttending a Getting Started Session during the first two – three days after your arrival is compulsory for new international students.

At this session you will:

– Meet an International Student Advisor

– Find out about the process of enrolling / registering for classes

– Learn how to get your student ID card

– Receive information on services on campus and key university facilities

– Receive public transport information to get around Brisbane

– Learn to find your way around UQ and inner Brisbane

– And receive an orientation week flyer (with checklist and map).

11. Update your Australian residential address and contact phone number on mySinetA condition of your student visa is that you maintain a

current Australian residential address. The University also requires that you update your Australian phone number so you can be contacted in case of an emergency. As soon as you have a residential address and phone number in Australia, you will need to access mySI-net and update your details www.sinet.uq.edu.au/ps/uqsinetsignin.html.

12. Order your OSHC card Once you have a current Australian address you will need to order your Worldcare Overseas Student Health Cover card. Please download a copy of the ‘how to order your card online’ brochure here: www.future-students.uq.edu.au/international/health-insurance

13. Establish an Australian bank accountThe St Lucia and Gatton campuses have branches located on campus – www.uq.edu.au/services/banking. Please note that many banks offer accounts for international students with no withdrawal or account fees.

14. Collect your UQ identification cardUpon arrival it is recommended that you organise your student ID card. For further information about student ID cards please visit www.uq.edu.au/startingatuq/get-your-student-id-card

15. Attend Orientation Week (O-Week)O-Week starts one week before classes commence and is hosted every semester at the St Lucia, Gatton and Ipswich campuses. O-Week is your introduction to life at UQ and during the week you will receive a variety of important information.
