serving size of a specific food.

How portion size has changed

Benefits of a Healthful Eating Plan

Activity is important to maintain a healthy weight

Studies show that lack of physical activity during childhood may lead to health problems in adulthood like obesity, heart disease, and Diabetes type 2.

Maintaining weight- Your weight will stay the same when the calories you eat and drink equal the calories you burn.

Losing Weight- You will lose weight when the calories you eat and drink are less than the calories you burn

Gaining Weight- You will gain weight when the calories you eat and drink are greater than the calories you burn.

Risk of obesity for:

Caucasian adults – 25%

Blacks and Latinos 30-50%

Native Americans – 60%

Health Risks

Focus on education because morbidity and mortality are directly related to lifestyle and eating habits

Health Promotion

Diets high in fruits and vegetables significantly reduce the risks of:

•Stroke

•Heart disease

•Several types of cancer

Importance of Fruits and Vegetables

Abstract

Obesity is a health problem that the United States has struggled with for

decades, and there are many health problems associated with obesity. The

obesity epidemic is decreasing quality of life for millions and driving up the cost

of healthcare .

Obesity is a modifiable risk factor, and when people adopt healthy lifestyles

and lose weight, they can reverse many detrimental health problems.

By improving access to health maintenance activities and providing nutrition

counseling on portion sizes and food label reading, clients will have improved

knowledge to increase healthy behaviors and promote weight loss with an

eventual decrease in risk factors related to obesity
