    [ 28 marks]

    Answer all questions.

    Jawabsemua soalan.

    1. A student carries out an experiment to investigate the relationship between the object distance, u andthe image distance, v, of a convex lens with focal length, f,. The apparatus is set up as shown inDiagram 1.1

The object distance is fixed at u = 34 cm, 30 cm, 26 cm, 20 cm and 16 cm. The convex lens is

placed at the zero mark on the scale of the metre rule when the image distance, v, is measured.

Diagram 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5 and 1.6 showed the end part of metre rule when the image

    distance, v, is measured.

    (b) Based on diagram 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5 and 1.6, determine the magnitude of v, and

    , when u is

equal to 34 cm, 30 cm, 26 cm, 20 cm and 16 cm.

    Tabulate the values ofu, v,

    and

    in the space below.

    .

    [1 mark]

    (e) State a precaution that should be taken to obtain the accurate result.

    2. A student carries out an experiment to determine the relationship between height, h of the raised endof an inclined track and the acceleration, a of a trolley as it moves freely down the inclined track.

A ticker-timer and ticker tapes are used to determine the acceleration of the trolley in this

experiment. The results of the experiment are shown in the graph ofa against h in Diagram 2.

    (b) Determine the value ofh when a = 3.2 ms-2Show on the graph in Diagram 2 how you determine the value ofh.

    ...[3 marks]

    (c) The gradient, m of the graph is given by the formula m= where g is the gravitational acceleration

and l is the length of the inclined runway.

    (i) Calculate the gradient, m of the graph.Show on the graph how you determine m.

    [3 marks]

    (ii) Using the formula m=

and the value ofm in (c) (i), calculate the value ofg. [use l = 2.0 m]

    [2 marks]

    (d)

The experiment is repeated using another inclined runway of length, l = 3.0 m. the lifted end of theinclined runway is fixed at a height, h = 0.4m. by using the formula a=

and the value of g in (c)

(ii), calculate the acceleration, a of the trolley.

    3. Diagram 3.1(a) shows an enclosed balloon containing 3.0 cm3 of air at a temperature of 2.0 0C in

a refrigerator. When the balloon was taken out and placed in room where the temperature was

27.00C, the air in it expanded, as shown in Diagram 3.1(b)

Based on the above information and observation:

    (a) State a suitable inference. [ 1 mark ](b) State a suitable hypothesis. [ 1 mark ](c) With the use of apparatus such as a metre rule, thermometer and other apparatus,

describe an experiment framework to investigate the hypothesis stated in 3(b).
