    AN ERP STORY

    1. What are the projects main characteristics and challenges identified ! "ean

    Roerge#

It was observed that the sales and marketing data was difficult to consolidate.

Other challenge was that the accounting and financial process was not in sync, hence

it required a check on it.

The human resource management was also required to be streamlined and to be

ensured that there was centralised single approach.

The marketing efforts have to be put to create single and unified web presence nation-

    wide.

To ensure productivity in the workspace, a single interface was required to be

    included to facilitate employee mobility.

To simplify the overall system by reducing the redundant and incompatible

    applications.

To collect the data of all the three companies and then to design structured plan for the

    project.

$. %n !o&r opinion' does the project ha(e other characteristics or challenges that "ean

Roerge did not identif! that sho&ld also e ta)en into acco&nt#

There are a few considerations that ean !oberge should have taken into account in theproject"

#irstly, the IT department should be given a strategic role and mot considered as

simple order takers or app developers.

$ cross functional team should have been created for the individual verticals. %ince a

new software package will be implemented, !oberge should see to it that the users are

well equipped to use the same.

!oberge did not take measures to see that the transition for the employees is smooth

when the three companies are merging and that the employees are able to adapt their

working style to the new required style of working.

$ proper gap analysis was not done. Involvement of the functional teams was low.

This could lead to differences between the IT department and the other departments.

The newly hired &roject manage will need to have not only strong technical skills but

good communication and soft skills as well.
