Message from the President,
Margie Mitchell
It was nice to have a good attendance at our first meeting. I cannot stress to you enough, how important it is that everyone attend all of the meetings. The board is working overtime to make sure 2016/2017 is a special year for every member to enjoy. Diane Tank has found some special presenters, that I know everyone will not want to miss. Remember this group is your group. We are working hard to make it informative and fun for you. We are including in our newsletter a calendar month by month so it will be easy to see at a glance what important dates are coming up. Just hang it on your fridge and you won’t miss any events. We will further discuss the Annual Fall Show at St. Jon Fisher, which is developing into an art show we can all be very proud of. The option of entering four paintings this year, I hope, is a very welcome idea. As always please let us know what you think.Presenters coming up:October 6th, 2016-Paul Allen Taylor -watercolorNovember-no presenter- Fall Show at St. John FisherDecember 1, 2016-Laurie Maddalena -charcoalJanuary 7th, 2017 -Olivia Kim -portrait of Joe Sirianni -clay

Reminder for all submitted work.
Please make sure all of your artwork is framed securely, all wires are taped and paintings are dry to the touch.
From the Desk of Carol KenyonCarol Kenyon , our historian has sent me a list of past jurors from the PAG Archives. It consists of a table of jurors, their employment, their media and the dates whichthey judged PAG shows. This covers shows from 1961 through Spring 2016. To date we’ve had about 70 different jurors! If anyonewould like to have a copy please let one of us know.
Anyone who is interested in selling at the holiday country club bazaar this fall, contact, [email protected] . You may have to provide a sample of work.
Is anyone interested in carpooling? Are there older members who may need a ride? Let us know and we will try to arrange it.
Is anyone interested in starting our meetings earlier in the evening? Would it be convenient to start at 5:30 for our business meeting with a light dinner (pizza/subs and drinks) and have our demonstrating artists start at 6:00pm? Would this be better for dark, winter nights? Give it some thought and let us know for the future.
By now everyone should have received their Annual Fall Show Prospectus in the mail. Some people may have also received a membership form. If anyone that you know of did not receive a form, please notify me at once. Being new to the PAG Art Group and to this job, I do not want to mistakenly exclude any member. Especially for this show
The PAG Board has decided that members may bring any guests to any of our monthly meetings. We have employed many exciting artists this year and we would love to see new faces. So please bring your interested family and friends. Jan Davidson won our 6X6 contest last month. Congratulations Jan!
We need people to sign up for our rotating exhibits. Members have sold paintings and our hosts really enjoy seeing our work. Please consider and plan ahead. Laura Davis is at all of our meetings and always passes the sign up sheet.
There will also be a sign up sheet for snacks for our next meetings. Amy Hobert has graciously signed up for our Oct 6th meeting. May’s volunteer is Joe Sirianni.
Sad news: John Edens passed away in March.
Immediately check your Fridge reminder and change Saturday, October 24

Jean Stephens will be our judge for our annual fall show this year. To give you an idea of how she looks at art.
Statement: A love of organic form and a spiritual connection to nature is at the heart of Jean’s still life drawings and oil paintings. Her artwork expresses an inward journey toward her true feminine nature. Guidance from spiritual teachers, inner work and the practice of yoga have provided glimpses of divine presence and the knowledge that everything is connected. For her, excitement comes where brush meets canvas and pencil touches paper, where trust allows the universe to speak.
Bio: A Rochester, New York native, Jean K Stephens received a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Masters in Art Education from Rochester Institute of Technology. Her desire desire for additional training has led to study with Carol Marine, John Whalley, Tim Hawksworth and the late Thomas Buchner. Jean’s paintings have been selected for national juried exhibitions, and are included in private and corporate selections. Jean offers instruction in oil painting and drawing in her Works Rd Studio in Honey Falls, NY. For information about classes and to view her work, visit- www.jeankstephens.com
When judging a show, I ask these questions:1.Does the artwork convey an interesting concept? Am I seeing the subject presented in a new way?
Our presenter for the October 6 meeting will be : Paul Allen Taylor, a plein air watercolorist.
Our presenter for the September meeting was Margot Fass. She is a member of the Main Street Artists and she brought her work in progress, “ Beautiful Hands, an homage to The Main Street Artists.” This unfinished piece is her interpretation of a collection of work she gathered from 19 artists in this group. I felt this large painting was quite magnificent and she bared her work to us and took all of our critical ideas to heart. Margot was eager to hear what we had to say and she conveyed to us the process of her task and words she often thought of: Complicated. Tentative. Love. Community. Support. Fun. Relationship. Enormous Respect. The result is a painting of the collage. It contains much of her own symbolism as well, Dad playing the piano, the color green representing frogs and her new little dog showing movement. She is still working on repetition of color and composition, but so much of it already flows expertly together. It takes one a long time to study the picture and see all the fine details and depth she has knitted together. She brought a large color chart that she uses for finding appropriate colors. This pieces given her so much respect and humility for the other artists that contributed.
