Proposal’s (RFP’s) atwww.tips-usa.com for the

following categories:

General Services;Trades, Labor andMaterials; E-Rate;Portable/Modular

Buildings; RenewableEnergy Solutions and

Services; SecuritySurveillance Systems

& Installation.

Proposals are dueThursday, March 12, 2015at 3:00 p.m. Proposals will

be approved at the April23, 2015 Board Meeting.

It’s not easy being the new kidon the block — especially whenno one who already lives there

looks like you.That’s the chal-

lenge facing Eddie, ahip-hop-loving 11-year-old Chinese-American who

moves to a white-bread Orlandosuburb in 1995. And that’s what’sfacing Fresh O the Boat, which is— shamefully — the first sitcomto focus on an Asian-Americanfamily since All American Girlin 1994.

It’s no surprise Fresh is airingon ABC, which has made a con-certed eort to look at life in

America from the perspective ofminority families with Cristelaand Black-ish. But because it’s onthe Disney-owned network, it’salso no surprise that what Freshoers is a largely optimistic, cheerful view of a melting pot inwhich cultures may bump but donot violently collide.

Based on a much-less-cheerymemoir by Eddie Huang, whonarrates, Fresh stars HudsonYang as the preteen iconoclast, apuzzle to his loving but very dif-ferent parents. His soft-spokenfather Louis (Randall Park), anAmerican dreamer who hasmoved the family to Orlando toopen a steakhouse, tries to seethe best in everyone. His moretraditional, old-world mother,Jessica (Constance Wu), hassharper edges and a distrust ofthe dominant culture that bor-ders on disdain — and a determi-nation to see her family succeed.

There are some very funnymoments in the first of tonight’s

two episodes, and fleeting indica-tions that Fresh could be a better, deeper show, particularly in thebattle between Eddie and an Afri-can-American child over whoshould be the butt of bigotry. Butthere also are signs the showcould become worse, notably amusic-video fantasy next weekthat objectifies women and de-means hip-hop.

Still, the show’s largest prob-lem is Eddie himself. Fresh hasn’tfigured out how to present itsmost abrasive character: Is he aposeur whose shallow appropria-tion of hip-hop style is meant tobe mocked, or does his love of themusic and culture tell us some-thing deeper about him?

That’s a flaw that needs fixing, because the parents, thoughamusing, reflect types we’ve seenbefore. Eddie is the distinctivecharacter: If he doesn’t ring true, neither will the show.

And if that happens, it won’t bethe new kid for long.

‘Fresh O the Boat’ could be more than fresh faces

For The Mentalist’s Patrick Jane(Simon Baker), Teresa Lisbon(Robin Tunney) has gone from

colleague to fiancée. The couple, ina photo exclusive to USA TODAY,

tie the knot in anoutdoor wedding in the CBS drama’stwo-hour seriesfinale (Feb. 18, 8 p.m. ET/PT).

“It was sweet. It was vulnerableand touching,” Baker says. “It wasvery personal, that moment wherehe turns in the field and sees her, just the two of them alone.”

Tunney, accustomed to sevenseasons of Lisbon’s more practicalon-the-job wardrobe, “felt uncom-fortable wearing high heels anda dress. But it was beautiful,” she says. “I feel the finale is a departure. It’s like The Mentalistgiving you their greatest version of a romantic comedy. I think ittotally works.”
