Construction Period:03.2012 – 02.2015
Services:Realization of a multi-purpose arena as a two-tiered stadium for 30.000 spectators with football pitch and running track including technical facilities and infrastructure
The first stage of the project was awarded end of 2010 as “Early works”. This stage includes the design of the stadium, the site installation works, as well as the execution of a retention lake and an outfall drain.
The Stadium Phase I, including the main bowl and part of the infrastructure works, was awarded end of February 2012. Phases II & III, the supplementary infrastructure works and facilities have been approved by the Government in August 2012, meaning that the entire sports complex will be realized by Julius Berger Nigeria.
The plot is located in the south west of the city of Uyo at Ring Road 3, allowing easy access for spectators and visitors.
The multi-purpose arena is a two-tiered stadium for approximately 30.000 spectators. The facility inlcudes a 68 x 105 metre football pitch which is surrounded by a 400 metre running track for international athletic events.
The Grand Stand accommodates alongside the functional area for athletes and operative staff a VVIP and VIP zone including the Governor´s Viewing Lounge with seating platform and lounge. The Grand Stand structure is completely separated from the rest of the tribunes to demonstrate its
dedicated importance as well as for security related reasons.
The stadium will be enclosed by a white triangular shaped outer skin that wraps around the entire stands area, East Stand & Curves. The enclosure comprises flat semi-translucent acrylic glass tiles with randomly arranged openings in the form of “eyes”. The facade of the Grand Stand is made of vertical orientated panels. The roof structure with trapezoidal sheet metal decking is covering all Stands and is designed with efficient overlapping.
An additional training pitch and parking facilities for public transport systems, as well as for private cars are also part of the project.
Furthermore an independent technical area with facilities to operate the stadium will be provided. A sewage treatment plant, a water reservoir and a workshop building are part of this dedicated area.
