Welcome to Key West’s 10th Annual Pirates in Paradise Festival – and a week of swashbuckling events for buccaneers and wenches of all ages! Historic re-enactors and performers from around the country (including Pyrates of the Coast, the Callahan Crewe of the Sacred Heart, Cascabel, Bawdy Be and Braze) are invading the island to join the Florida Keys own pirate crews Captain’s of the Devil’s Triangle and Pirates of the Marquesas. As you stroll the streets of Old Town’s colorful seaport taverns and pirate pubs and the Fort’s Pirate Fest ,don't be surprised if you run into the likes of Anne Bonny, Mary Read, Black Caesar, Sir Henry Morgan & other nefarious Brethren of the Coast. Don’t miss the Pirate’s Choice Rum Pub Stroll on Fri., Dec. 4 with Capt’s of the Devil’s Triangle . For those seeking adventure on the high seas, Admiral Finbar and his scurvy crew of pirates invite you to hop aboard the Schooner WOLF for an adventure at sea! You can also partake in dive & snorkel trips to the coral reef and or USS Vandenberg, enjoy deep sea, flats or backwater fishing trips, eco tours, ferry trips to the Dry Tortugas and other nautical excursions. For a taste of history, join author & historian Robert N. Macomber for a Reader Rendezvous on Tuesday, December 1. Sponsored by the Key West Maritime Historical Society, events include a Historic Walking Tour of Old Town Key West, Book Signing at Voltaire Books; Sunset Reception & Historic Presentation at the Crown Plaza La Concha. Also…don’t miss the historic reenactment of the Pyrate Tryal of Anne Bonny and Mary Read, based on the original transcripts of the trial which will be held on Saturday, December 5 at Old City Hall. Fort Taylor’s Pirate Fest at Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park features authentic period encampments and daily pirate skirmishes with historic re-enactors and colorful pirates – giving you the chance to live a pirate's life! On Thursday, December 3 don’t miss the Pyrates of the Coast’s 6th Annual Walk the Plank National Championships aboard the WOLF or the Pirate Party & Fairvilla Megastore Fashion Show at Pat Croce’s Rum Barrel. Join the community of Key West for their annual Maritime Holiday Celebration and End of America’s Hurricane Season Ceremony at the USS MOHAWK on November 30. The celebration includes the commissioning ceremony of the USCGC Ingham (not confirmed) and the ceremonial burning of the hurricane flags. Live entertainment features Howard Livingston & Friends, Kat Epple, Mary Spears and Rich McKay and the Pirates in Paradise crew. ‘Queen of Swing’ Norma Miller turns 90 on December 2 and her Birthday Bash begins on Wednesday, December 2 with Brunch at La Te Da, a Sunset Sail aboard the WOLF and a Reception (featuring the Mike Emerson Southernmost Rhythm Section and Kat Epple) at the Key West Art Bar. The fun continues with a Birthday Dinner/Swing Dance on Saturday, December 5 at the Pier House Resort & Spa and Sound Check at the Green Parrot Bar and Tribute to Norma at La Te Da on Sunday, December 6. Robert N. Macomber is an internationally recognized award-winning maritime writer, lecturer, and television commentator. He has lectured as part of the Distinguished Military Author Series at the Center for Army Analysis in Washington DC, at the U.S. Southern Command’s Notable Military Author Series, for the West Point Society, and at the Office of Naval Intelligence. Mr. Macomber is annual guest author and lecturer aboard the Queen Mary 2 since her maiden voyage, as well as the Silver Sea fleet of luxury liners; a maritime commentator for Florida PBS; and a naval history lecturer for the American History Forum and the Civil War Education Association. Mr. Macomber is the author of the acclaimed Honor Series of naval novels and is proud to have readers in ten countries. His awards include the Outstanding Achievement Award of Florida for his non-fiction work on Florida’s maritime history, the Patrick Smith Literary Award for Best Historical Novel of Florida (At the Edge of Honor), and the John Esten Cooke Literary Award for Best Work in Southern Fiction (Point of Honor). Mr. Macomber was named by Florida Monthly Magazine as one of the 22 ‘Most Intriguing Floridians of 2006’ and The Most Intriguing Author. His sixth novel, A Different Kind of Honor, recently won the highest national honor in his genre—the American Library Association’s 2008 W. Y. Boyd Literary Award for Excellence in Military Fiction. His seventh novel, The Honored Dead, came out in March of 2009 to rave national reviews. Each year Mr. Macomber travels approximately 15,000 sea miles around the globe giving maritime lectures and researching his novels, including an annual lecture tour across the Pacific. When not on lecture, research, or book tour journeys, Mr. Macomber lives a simple life in a small bungalow by Serenity Bay at Matlacha Island. The community is an old Florida fishing village on the same southwest coast of the peninsula where he grew up as a sailor.
