Pipeline Supports
Introduction
A pipe support is a device or assembly or structural component that is
used tosupport a set of pipe lines or duct lines. It transmits environmental loads
from the
piping systems to the attached building or structure. CADDS PipeSupports allows
you to create, modify, manipulate, report and draw pipe supports, shipand plantdesign projects.
Pipe Supports can be classified into two categories.

Fabricated Supports
Fabricated pipe supports are made up of one or more structural members
assembled together to support a set of pipe lines. A pipe support membercan be
made from various cross sections such as angles, flat bar, channels and I -beams.
Fabricated pipe supports can contain various ready made peripheral items
such as
clamps, u-bolts, sliding pads and attachment pads. Pipe supports alsoincludeinformation such as weight, material type, paint code, label and cross
sectiondimensions.CADDS Pipe Supports deals only with fabricated pipe supports. It allows
you to
create, modify, manipulate, report and draw two basic types of
objects.

dimensional parameters, such as cross section size, pipe support
width and height,
clamp type, tolerance and clearance distances.
Pipe supports can be modeled in stand-alone mode or related to
the pipe lines theysupport. Though, ultimately all the pipe supports should be
related to pipe lines, a
pipe support in stand alone mode is easier to manipulate while
modeling.
Pipes clamps help keep pipes in place whether on the ground, attached to the ceiling or up against a wall.
For pipes to stay where they are installed, they are usually
connected to support systems that keep them in place. Pipes can
be supported from below using brace supports, from above
using pipe hangers and, for pipes running up and down, with
clamps that adhere them to the wall. There are many different
types of pipe supports in these
categories.
The length of cradle bottom is
1/3 of pipe
It means the pipe of 24 inch, the
length of cradle will be 8 inch.
The angle of the support is 120

Definitions
Pipe Support Member
A member or pipe support member, is a structural element. It isrepresented by a
local nodal figure associated with related model graphics and
non-graphical
attributes. The model graphics representation can be any one of
the following:
Nspline projection axis
Nspline projection axis with related cross section profile
Set of NURB surfaces
Solid Set of closed co-planar strings representing the member
surfaces (SMS display
mode)
The various model graphics representations of a pipe support
member are illustrated.
Pipe Support Unit
A pipe support or a pipe support unit is a collection of one ormore pipe support
members that are related to each other, and comprise a single
logical unit. A pipe
support unit denotes all the members and attached components
such as pads,
snips, clamps, sliding pads, cable trays and tubestraps. A pipe
support unit with
pad and snip is illustrated.

Pad
A pad is a small planar plate that lies between the attachment member ofa pipe
support and the structural object on which the pipe support is erected.
Snip
A snip is a 45 degree cut at the end of a pipe support member.
Sliding Pad
A sliding pad is a small plate which lies between a pipe support member
and the
pipe line it supports. Optionally there should be only one sliding pad foreach pipeline. A sliding pad is stored as a non-graphic property on the related pipe
line.
Clamp
A clamp is a device used to fasten a pipe line onto a pipe support
member. A clampis stored as a non-graphic property on the related pipe line.
Cable Tray
A cable tray is a device that takes the weight of electrical or control
cables whichare routed in groups, from one connection point to another. A cable tray
is createdas a local nodal entity.
Tube Strap
A tube strap is a device used to fasten a tube onto a pipe support member.
Tubestrap is stored as a non-graphic property on the supporting member.

Attachment Points
An attachment point is the location at which a pipe support is attached to
anexisting structural object.
Types of Pipe Supports
For pipes to stay where they are installed, they are usuallyconnected to support systems that keep them in place. Pipes canbe supported from below using brace supports, from above using
pipe hangers and, for pipes running up and down, with clamps thatadhere them to the wall. There are many different types of pipesupports in these categories
Pipe Hangers
o Because most above-ground pipes in residential andcommercial buildings are installed overhead, pipe hangersare the most common form of pipe supports. These come innumerous styles; the most common types are strap-style,hook-style, channel-style and clamp-style. Strap-style pipehangers are made of a thin, flexible piece of metal or othermaterial that wraps around the pipe and is then attached tothe ceiling. Hook-style pipe hangers are made into a J-shape, the longer end of which is attached to the ceil ing; thepipe rests on the hook. Channel-style pipe hangers are very
wide J-hooks and can help conceal the pipe as it supports it.
Pipe Risers
o Pipes that rest against the ground typically rest on risers that
help keep them secure to the ground. Pipe anchors are risesthat rigidly restrict any vertical movement caused by thepipe's internal flow or external forces. Shock-absorbing pipesupports allow some movement by the pipe but swallow anyvibrations or excess movement; they are good for pipes thatmove a great deal as a result of high-feed or inconsistentflow. Insulated pipe supports minimize energy dissipation

and reduce the effects of differing temperatures that occur atthe support.
Vertical Clamps
o There are a number of different pipe clamps that can beused to attach vertical pipes to walls. Saddle clamps use topand bottom plates that are secured by bolts and aredesigned to absorb vibration and heat from high-pressurefeed. Gang clamps are made of an angled piece of strongmetal, the ends of which are bolted to the wall. They areuseful for attaching several pipes within close proximity ofeach other because of their minimal use of space. Strap-style pipe hangers can also be used to attach vertical pipesto the wall in the same way they can be used in overhead
areas.
General Pipe Clamps
o There are also hundreds of different types of pipe clampsthat can be used to adhere pipes to other objects. Thesepipe clamps typically use some kind of bolt mechanism; theymay support the pipe by attaching to themselves or they maybe bolted to a wall or elsewhere.

MATERIALS
All structural steel used if of high quality. Quality Pipe Supportsoffer a widerange of steels including carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steeland lowtemperature steels. All steels will have full mechanical andchemical testcertificates. When requested, full traceability of material will begiven.
QUALITY ASSURANCE
Quality Pipe Supports documented Quality Assurance Manual and
Proceduresare written to comply with ISO 9001. Our quality manual isavailable forinspection on request and we welcome Quality Audits to verify oursystems.Where contracts require, a specific quality plan can be submittedandimplemented into our workshops. Comprehensive materialtraceability is astandard function on all incoming goods. This can be achieved in
all stages ofmanufacture on request.
SURFACE FINISHES
All standard surface preparations and finishes are available tosteelwork.Shotblasting is carried out to Swedish standard SA 2.5.At Q.P.S we offer a large range of painting systems to suit all typesof
environments. If you cannot see the finish you require, then pleasecontact usas alternative surface preparation and finishes can be achievedupon request.
