MOLOSSOID BREEDS
SWISS MOUNTAIN DOGS
This is perhaps one of the most common Pinscher
types - the German Doberman Pinscher.
Developed around 1890 by Karl Louis Friedrich
Dobermann, the dogs were originally bred as guard dogs, but are now more commonly kept as pets,
prized for their intelligence and fierce loyalty.
The Schnauzer originated in Germany in the 15th or 16th Centuries. The
word originates from the German for moustache (die Schnauze), due to the
dog’s distinctive facial hair.
The term Molossers derives from Molossia, a subregion of ancient Epirus, where the word Molossus described the large shepherd dog.
Heavy bones, pendant ears and a short muzzle are defining characteristics of the breed.
Some Shepherd and Mountain dogs, all Mastiffs, the Boxer and the Rottweiler belong to this distinguished group.
And don’t forget the Great Danes...
