Laser Benefits to the Clinician

Improved visibility of the surgical field:

The Pilot diode laser beam seals capillaries and small blood vessels as it "cuts" the tissue resulting in significantly reduced bleeding. This results in a much drier and clearer surgical site.

Page 32: Pilot Laser Overview - CAO group

Laser Benefits to the Clinician

Reduction of procedure time:

The hemostatic effect of the laser beam and the improved visibility of the surgical field reduce the time needed to perform many surgical procedures; in addition, laser surgery may reduce the need for sutures, bandaging, and other after-care measures (example: mass removal, declaw, etc.)

Laser Benefits to the Clinician

Pinpoint accuracy and control :

The contact or non-contact of the .4mm diameter and the power of the beam may be adjusted to accomplish precision ablation, deeper tissue incisions, disinfection or non-surgical therapeutic treatment (example: incisions, gum contouring, tissue sculpting, root canal, bio-stimulation, etc.)

Laser Benefits to the Clinician

Increased capabilities and services:

The versatility of the Pilot diode laser not only improves most surgical and therapeutic procedures but also expands available services provided by most practices, allowing the general practitioner to retain services that otherwise might be referred. Laser surgery changes the character of many procedures by making them simpler or by reducing risk (example: periodontal, Otitis Externa treatment, etc.)

Laser Benefits to the Patient

Less Pain:

The laser seals lymphatic and nerve endings as it treats and cuts, resulting in less edema and pain, resulting in a more comfortable post-operative recovery.

Page 36: Pilot Laser Overview - CAO group

Laser Benefits to the Patient

Reduced risk of infection:

The laser beam kills bacteria in its path (contact or near-contact mode), producing a sanitizing effect.

Page 37: Pilot Laser Overview - CAO group

Laser Benefits to the Patient

Quicker recovery time:

Reduced risk of infection, less bleeding, less swelling, and less pain often allow the patient a more rapid return to normal activity. Less itching, less pain and less chance of infection helps the animal to leave the wound alone and allow it to heal faster.

Re-bonding of tissue is not the only component of healing; the biggest deterrents to healing are infection and licking.

Plume Evacuation System:

The smoke plume generated during laser surgery is a concern for both operators and patients. Elimination of the offensive and potentially toxic smoke plume is considered essential; this requires an efficient and reliable filtration system.

The FDA-approved Filtresse™ Smoke Filtration System integrates the highest standards of smoke plume evacuation and filtration into one compact, quiet and portable unit. A three stage disposable filter system is composed of a High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) pre-filter, a layer of activated charcoal for odor absorption, and a third stage Ultra Low Penetration Air (ULPA) filter. This design achieves a filtration efficiency of >99.999% on 0.1 µm particles, achieving the desired environment for both patients and clinicians with the added benefit of an attractively low cost per procedure.
