PILGRIMAGE TOUR TO INDIA UNDER SPIRITUAL GUIDANCE OF FR. SURESH XAVIER, ASSISTANT PASTOR OF ST.BERNADETTE PARISH IN AJAX, ON Tour co-ordinator Mr. Wilfred Gomez (416 292 5707) February 18 – February 28, 2018 - 11 days - CA$ 3998.00 (Includes airport taxes) Travel arrangements by QS Travel & Tours Inc. affiliate of Queen Syrena Travel Inc. 3055 Dundas St. W., #4, Mississauga, ON L5L 3R8. Tel. 905.412.2242 or 1-800-565-3619 www.qstours.com Depart Toronto to Mumbai via Amsterdam. You arrive today at Mumbai Airport, and then connect flight to Cochin. On arrival, assisted transfer to the hotel where wash & change rooms will be booked for you with breakfast. Post breakfast, meet with your local guide and drive through the city of Cochin. Visit St. Thomas the Apostle Church. It was St. Thomas who brought Christianity to India in 52 AD and died in Kerala. Later drive to the backwaters of Kumarakom with its drenched greens and coconut palms. Kumarakom, or the 'Venice of the East' is a veritable paradise in the lush backwaters of Kottayam. Dinner and overnight. Post breakfast; take a short drive to Allepey to board Kettuvallam, a traditional houseboat and spend two days drifting through the backwaters of Kerala. The Kettuvallam or ‘boat with knots’- was so called because the entire boat was held together with coir knots only - not even a single nail is used during the construction. As we float along, enjoy the picturesque hamlets that line the banks, migratory birds in abundance, water lilies and coconut groves. Rest of the day is at leisure. Full day cruise on the backwaters. Enjoy the sights of vast stretches of paddy fields, coconut lagoons and pied King Fishers hurtling down to catch the fish. During the cruise, visit villages on the banks to check out the techniques and procedures of coir making. High Points of the cruise is the visit to the 400Year old church - St. Mary-s Church, established by St. Thomas in 1721 and Sree Bhagavathy Kshetram - a 100-year old Hindu temple to Mother Goddess - at Nedumudy. Early morning, carry boxed breakfast and drive to Cochin airport to board the flight to Goa (via Mumbai). On arrival in Goa, transfer to the hotel and check in for your stay. Goa, the former Portuguese enclave, one of India’s gems, has been popular with tourists for many years with its magnificent palm-fringed beaches and renowned “travelers’ scene”. It has much more to offer than sun, sand and sea. Goa has a character quite distinct from the rest of India, and the people are fun-loving and relaxed, having retained some of the gaiety of the Portuguese.Rest of the day is at leisure. Morning, take a guided tour of Old Goa, a serene locale dotted with majestic churches and imposing cathedrals. Visit the Basilica of Bom Jesus Church. Built in 1695, the church of Bom Jesus, "Good" or "Infant" Jesus, is known principally for the tomb of St. Francis Xavier. Continue to the imposing Se Cathedral of St. Catherine- the largest church in Asia, which has 14 altars, an 80m long aisle and 5 bells including the Golden Bell. Next visit the Church & Convent of St Francis of Assisi the former palace of the Archbishop that connects the Se Cathedral to the Convent and Church of St. Francis of Assisi. Later, visit the church of St Cajetan’s Church, which is modelled on the original design of St. Peter's Church in Rome. Afternoon, proceed on a walking tour of Fontainhas – the old Latin quarter. End the day after a drive to Panjim to visit the well preserved Immaculate Conceição church and nearby market area. Evening, cruise on the Mandovi River and admire the Goan cultural show. Today you will visit the spectacular Dudhsagar Waterfalls. Nestled in the lofty peaks of the Western Ghats, the Dudh Sagar Waterfalls offer unparalleled beauty and amazing scenery. Continue to a spice plantation. Lunch at the plantation. Back to the hotel by sunset. Early morning, transfer to the airport and fly to Delhi (via Mumbai). On arrival, assisted transfer to the hotel and check in for your stay. Delhi stands as the capital of modern India. Here you can see the mingling of the old and new India, the ancient and the modern. Afternoon visit the 16th century Humayun Tomb, the first garden tomb of Asia and the Qutab Minar, the magnificent 12th century minaret later in the day. Both are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Evening, drive through Lutyens Delhi and stopping at the India Gate in the Rajpath. Morning drive to Agra. On arrival, visit Taj Mahal – a World Heritage Site. Taj Mahal is everything that has been said about it and more. Built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as an expression of his love for his wife Mumtaz Mahal, in mid 17th century, the Taj Mahal is truly one of the wonders of the world. Though the Taj appears to be amazingly perfect from almost any angle, it is the close-up marble inlay work, which is astounding. You will have ample time to view and be mesmerized by this outstanding piece of architecture. Post lunch (on direct payment), drive to Delhi. Evening, reconvene for farewell dinner before checking out. You will be transferred to Delhi airport to board direct flight back to Toronto.
