++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Close Encounters Of the Russian Kind Air Force Magazine Article / Nov 2020

“Above photos from Air Force magazine.”

While the game of playing “Aerial chicken” has been going on for decades between U.S. and Russian aircraft, the U.S. military has reported in recent years Soviet aircraft has become more aggressive towards NATO aircraft patrolling in neutral airspace and Russian aircraft has increased its frequency of testing U.S. response time near Alaskan airspace.

“USAF F-22 Raptor escorts Russian Tu-95 Bear

    bomber away from Alaskan airspace.”

“Canadian CF-18 Hornet escorts Russian Tu-95 Bear away from Canadian airspace.”

“The U.S. Navy also has its share of close encounters of the Russian kind. During the

1970’s – 1980’s, the U.S. Navy routinely intercepted Russian aircraft attempting to

approach U.S. Navy battle groups. Above photo shows a F-4 Phantom escorting a Russian Tu-16 Badger away from a U.S. aircraft carrier. These

    engagements still continue today.”

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Our Condolences to Sam Pisciotta 1939 – December 1st 2020 Notification from Larry Osborne, Pueblo Sky Coral club secretary: I am sorry to let all of you know that Sam Pisciotta passed away this afternoon after a short illness. Sam collapsed at home last week and his condition never improved. Condolences to his wife, Donna, children Gina, Chris and Kimbra and brother Duane. Probably will be no funeral or services due to the Covid quarantine. Sam was one of the founding members of Sky Corral in 1970 and will be sorely missed by all.

“Sam prepares to fly one of his favorite planes, his AT-6 Texan.”

Sam was born in Pueblo in 1939. One thing only us old guys remember about Sam is that he was a top notch scale competitor in the 70's and 80's winning many scale contests. Sam missed qualifying for the AMA world championship scale team in 1981 by a hair. He was in 3rd place at the Nats with his Tony Brentand only needed to get some kind of score on his last fly by maneuver when he got flutter and had to abort, getting a zero which put him in 4th.Sam regularly competed at Pikes Peak's Black Forest field and qualified for the Scale Masters regularly. Most guys who know him now did not know how good he was as a scale flier and builder. Larry – Sky Coral Club Secretary

“Sam (Blue shirt) and his brother Duane (White shirt) during a Pueblo warbird event.”

“A photo of Sam during his younger days.”

“If there was a RC warbird event in the area, you could always count on the Pueblo Five to be

there: Duane / Larry / Brent / Zack / Sam.”

Sam was an avid RC warbird lover. For the many years that I have known him, he has flown Zeros, AT-6’s, P-47’s, P-51’s, F6F’s and was working on a very rare Italian Macchi C-202. Sam will be deeply missed by his family and friends within the RC community. Sam, may you rest in peace. Keith – PPRC Club Secretary ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Can You Name That Plane?

Clue #1: This jet first flew in 2008 and had the potential of becoming a low-cost jet for private pilots. Only one prototype was built, and the program was cancelled in 2011. Clue #2: One reason why the jet failed was because it received stiff opposition from the FAA for certification. The FAA did not like the idea of a civilian single-pilot aircraft capable of flying at 35,000+ feet. Clue #3: Another reason for its failure was cost. It was determined that this single-engine jet would cost almost as much as a twin-engine jet.

Clue #4: In 2012, the jet was placed on permanent display at the Florida Air museum.

Last month’s airplane: The Boeing GA-1. Greg Moore and Joe Jacobson knew that old airplane! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Toilet Paper Turmoil

We’ve had our airfield bathrooms just over five years now. It’s nice to have a quiet place to sit

and think about which plane you plan to fly next. However, we also have a problem with the toilet

paper being unraveled all the time. I was told mice were doing it. That’s one big mouse!

If anyone has any good suggestions on how we can fix the problem (a cover, move the roller

higher, etc) let us know so that we can end this toilet paper turmoil!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Pikes Peak RC Club Badges Just a few notes about the PPRCC badges:

Badges need to be displayed while flying. Badges take about 10 days to make. It

can be picked up at Dan’s Pikes Peak Hobby store.

Badges are not automatically mailed but can be mailed by request for $15.00.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ PPRCC 2020 Year in review January - PPRCC started 2020 off with the Frozen Needle-Valve event. We had 30+ participants and the weather was 30+ degrees. March – The COVID virus began to make the news. Many RC clubs in the area began to modify or cancel their summer events. April – New housing began to appear south of the airfield. Could be problems in the future. May – As the virus continued to spread, PPRCC held all of its monthly club meetings at the airfield up until December. The airfield remained opened throughout the year June – PPRCC continued with their scheduled events, with social distancing now in place. The club completed its annual airfield maintenance, followed by the Father’s Day event and the T-28 & Big Stik event. July – Warbirds over Pikes Peak took place, just over 25 pilots participated. A visiting pilot from NM flew a very large B-29 Superfortress. Very nice. August – PPRCC held its first Carrier Quals event. 15 pilots joined in and said it was harder than it looked. Everyone enjoyed it and we hope to do it again in 2021. The annual Family Day & Swap meet happened in late August, despite the virus, still a good turnout. Food & drink sharing was limited. September – PPRCC jets over Pikes Peak took place, had a low participation of 9 pilots. There was another RC jet event taking place at Love-Air the same day. Everyone still had a good time. October – PPRCC Electric Fun Day took place. The weather was good for October and the event had a turnout of about 15 pilots. November – For the first time in club history, club voting for the vice president was done strictly by email voting. Eric Oliver was emailed in (voted in) as the club VP for 2021. December – PPRCC closed 2020 with 130+ members. In the past, the average membership has been between 110 – 120. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
