Pidgin Installation and Configuration

Pidgin
• What is Pidgin?– Pidgin is an open source chat program that lets
you log in to accounts on multiple networks simultaneously
Pidgin
• Will it run on any Operating System?– Pidgin runs on Windows, Linux and other UNIX
operating systems
– For Mac OS X, Pidgin recommends Adium, which is also an open source messaging application
Pidgin Installation
• Installation – Linux– Download Pidgin: pidgin.im/download/ubuntu
– Terminal [sudo]• apt-get update• apt-get install pidgin

• Installation – Windows– Download Pidgin: pidgin.im/download/windows
– Installation: Mac OS X• Pidgin recommends Adium

• How to manage an account– Type: Pidgin [open Pidgin Internet Messenger]– Press the ADD button. The “Add Account”
window appears

• Login Options:– Protocol: XMPP– Username: [liham username]– Domain: icto.dost.gov.ph– Resource: [make it blank]– Password: [liham password]
