Ball Stud Inspection 1) Clean all steer cylinder and tie rod ends down. 2) Drive truck in straight line so as not to load up steering geometry. 3) Chock and tag vehicle 4) Bar all tie rod and steer cylinder points to locate any movement. 5) If movement found, set up dial indicator and measure amount of movement. 6) If movement is greater than 1 mm, remove cap and determine is wear is between ball stud and bearing race, or bearing race and housing. Record which area is worn 7) Ball stud wear limits: 0 to 1.02 mm - OK 1.02 to 1.27 mm - schedule for change out 1.27 mm and above - change out ball stud 8) Record measurement:

CHECK 1 2 3 4 Steering accumulator – using ground level engine shutdown switch stop engine then check for steering operation.

Visual check on duo cone leakage acc hub positions Report on any significant coolant usage (to indicate internal leakage) Are ball stud inspections due? Check steering ball joint wear as per service manual, maximum wear in any ball joint is 1.02mm. Check all ball joint covers are in good condition

CHECK 1 2 3 4 Check tension and orientation of tie rod end clamps. Open portion of clamp should be aligned with one slot in tie rod (see SERVB-CAT2 in RMS for guidance). Tension is 583 Nm±27

Check the tension and condition of the steering centre linkage bolts (250Nm). If bolt require re-tensioning, relace bolts and reinstall as per SERVB-CAT3 service bulletin in RMS

Steering (cylinders, valve and joints) Air Conditioner – condition and operation Air Dryer operation, check for moisture in secondary air tank Replace air dryers desiccant Belts – inspection/adjust/replace Rock ejectors Induction system for leaks and clamps for tightness All hoses for general condition and chaffing Cooling system hoses for condition and clamps for tightness Brake cooling hoses for leaks, hardness and damage. Replace as required Fuel system for loose bolts and fittings Download VIMS, check operation and report overspeeds. Inspect hydraulic hoist cylinder hoses for damage, wear or deteriorated condition. Replace hoses as required.

Engine mounts Frame and body support pads. Clean and inspect for cracks ROPS/Cab and chassis attachment points for damage, cracks, corrosion or loose/missing bolts

27-Jan-2011 WOC81931 - PARK BRAKE LIGHT ON. 17,599Park brake light on. Tested park brake release pressure. Spec is 650 PSI at high idle. Machine read 650. Test drove machine. Brakes worked correctly and was able to Feather them. Replaced park brake switch, but light stayed on. Tested all harnesses and connections. All wiring was good. Found that machine was not sending a signal from the monitor to the switch Switched monitors with the other truck, and confirmed the monitor was bad. Travel home. Travel to site. Removed old cat cms and sticker. Installed sticker on new cms. Installed dash. New monitor has to be flashed by Cat dealer.Travel to site. Do JHA. Dissassembled dash and disconnected monitor. Reattached old monitor and tried to communicate with machine. Found that on start up the screen display showed the brake, transmission, and monitoring system were programmed as a 771 instead of a 777D. Engine ECM was programmed as a 777D. Couldn't completely communicate with machine as it would lose communications with ECMs. When new monitor was hooked up, couldn't communicate at all with machine. Travelled back to base.John Garley from Finning went back out and found he'd used the wrong wire to flash the dash. Reflashed and it worked fine.

27-Jan-2011 WOC81928 - LHS DUO-CONE SEAL LEAKING. 17,634LHS duo-cone seal leaking. Gathered parts and supplies, travelled to site and do JHA. Moved and positioned truck in bay. Removed tire and adapted air to tank. Steamed off hub and brake. Applied brake several times and found leak coming from cover. O-ring was missing off plug. Reinstalled plug with new o-ring and filled hub with 8 litres oil. No leaks.

21-Jan-2011 WOC81384 - RIGHT HAND REAR WHEEL GROUP 17,599Change out R/H/R Wheel groupRebuilt by Finning Emeco Exchange unit used

Travelled to site and performed JHA for the job required. Drained all the oils out of both rear final drives and the rear diff. Drained the oil out of the hydraulic tank. Jacked up truck and set on stands. Removed the axles from both rear final drives. Unloaded the new wheel groups off of Dennis' trailer and then waited for Kal Tire to show up and remove the rear wheels. Kal Tire couldnt get their manipulator into place and the on site wheel loader broke down. The wheel loader was not able to be repaired until the next day. Talked to the on site contact about the situation. Travelled back from the site to the Edmonton shop. Removed diff to wheel group mount bolts. Removed RHS wheel group and prepped it for transport. Picked up parts and travelled back to work site. Did JHA. Installed RHS wheel group on machine. Torqued bolts to 774 ft.lbs. Filled diff with 222 litres of oil. Installed both axles. Had some difficulty getting axles in for lack of correct tools. Installed all lines. Installed speed sensor. Installed new sun gears. Filled final drives with 42 litres each. Filled brake cooler tank with 504 litres of 10 weight. Bled the brakes. Installed inner rear tires. RHS tire valve stem got broken off during install. Measured brakes and found LHS side rear to be .266 of travel. RHS was .249 of travel. Park brake warning light stayed on. Cleaned up area and travel home.Took temp readings on all brakes. Front LHS-34 C. Front RHS-37C. Rear RHS-39C. Rear LHS-38C. No brake drag. Parked machine back inside. Talked to contact and drove back to shop.

Ended up being shipped to Kamloops for repair.

Cleaned mounting surface and mounted exchange wheel group. Had major difficulty installing group as the wheel loader was to small for the job and ice was built up around the bay door.Washed wheel group. Dissassembled wheel group hub, spindle, and washed brake. Marked housings, evenly let off spring tension from piston, removed piston and housing, cleaned and measured all friction discs and plates and dampners for warpage and thickness. Spec for friction disc is .200 plus or minus .003. Spec for discs is .0950 plus or minus .0025. Spec for dampner is .270 plus or minus .010. No warpage or major wear apparant.Thickness of discs- .091,.091,.091,.092,.092,.092,.092,.093,.094,.091,..093,.093,.093

Removed planet gears with press. Etched parts for maintenance program.Removed planet gear bearings. Installed new bearings and spacers in planet gears.Moved carrier to press and pushed in all three pins. Cleaned cover, installed new o-ring and axle thrust plate. Torqued mount bolts to 35 ft.lbs.

Ended up being shipped to Kamloops for repair.

12-Jan-2011 WOC80179 - BRAKES NOT RELEASING. STEERING 17,555Brakes not releasing. Supplimental steering not working. Checked levels. Started truck, released park brake and found that brakes were dragging on driving into the shop. Drained air tank, removed lines, poured air line antifreeze into tank and service lines. Started truck and cycled service and park brake. Park brake now releases properly. Drove truck and service brakes also worked correctly. Customer complained of secondary steering not working right, so tested solenoid which worked. Motor had 25 volts at contact, but did not turn. Cleaned all contacts, motor had a resistance of 4.5 kohms. Installed new motor. Tested steering and it worked good. Started truck and released park brake with no problem. Drove to RDC024 and read code with laptop. Found cylinder #4 injector was throwing an intermittant code. Did a cylinder cutout test, and engine changed on all cutouts. Ghost code. Sent machine back to work.

REPLACED CONNECTOR AND PUT FRONT GRILL BACK TOGETHER. FIND AND INSTALLED RAD DRAIN PLUG AND BOLTED BOTTOM PLATE RAD GUARD. ALSO BRANE AND STEERING TEST AND MOVED UNIT OUTSIDE FOR BRAKE ABILITY TEST AND CHECK FOR OIL LEAK. BROUGHT INSIDE THE SHOP AGAIN. FINNING FUN FOR PARTS.
