    Positioning and target groups

The PRIMERGY TX120 S3: for small environments with high demands.

As with its predecessors, the TX120 S3 is aimed at customers who need high server functionality, in an ultra compact form-factor. The ideal

clients, would be retail environments, banks, lawyers or doctors practices or similar. Of course, thanks to the onboard iRMC S3, the TX120 S3

could also be used in retail environments connected to a data center. In fact, some customers, have even used the TX120 S3 in a rack cabinet (of

course, this system is not offered with a tower to rack kit).

TX120 S3 key point: is that it really makes a fresh start when compared to the previous TX120 models. Here is why.

Performance & Cost Small form factor for free!

The PRIMERGY TX120 S3 has the same performance and cost as the TX140 S1

The TX120 S3 can now take up to Intel Xeon processors

    TX120 S3 Expandability

Up to 4 HDD + DVD + Backup possible without the need for a HDD extension box

    How did we do it?

By developing the TX120 S3 and TX140 S1 on the same platform

By taking advantage of the resulting synergies

    Market and competition

According to the Gartner report Market Insight: Midsize Businesses Cite Key Selection Criteria for IT Investments from 27.7.2010, following the

recent financial crisis, SMEs are more careful than ever when buying investment goods. They have a clear goal of only spending when they need

to AND getting the most out of their money.

In the above report, Gartner states the following as being key criteria for SMEs:

Because of their limitation in IT resources, midsize businesses have always favored IT solutions that:

Are easy to install, configure and manage

Are simple to use and require minimal customization

Don't increase demand on already limited IT resources

Are easy to integrate with existing systems

    Have straightforward and simple pricing

Can be consumed in modular components and extended when required

Are relevant and have been proved at same-size and same-industry companies

PRIMERGY TX120 S3 Value Proposition: Scalable, cost-efficient, manageable IT for SMEs, branch offices and data centers

To compete successfully, customers valuable staff and their money must work as efficiently as possible. The underlying challenges are:

    They dont have unlimited personnel:

o Their valuable time must be put to best use

    They dont have unlimited cash:

o Any investment must pay for itself quickly

o The value of the investment must carry on into the long term

These challenges are true of any company, and even truer in the case of a SME.

How can the PRIMERGY TX120 S3 assist their business?

It is cost-efficient, scalable, easy to manage andGreen

    Versatile and scalable:

It fits perfectly into a multitude of SMEs, branches or even data centers. We know of customers who in the past have integrated a TX120 in a telco

    rack cabinet.

It can easily be scaled up or scaled out in order to maximize the ROI.

Cost-efficient PRIMERGY servers shorten the payback period by:

    Minimizing running costs

Supporting your business processes with top performance

    Being easy to manage:

o The free of charge ServerView makes it easy to integrate PRIMERGY servers into customers existing landscape saving their IT

    resources.

o The PRIMERGYTX120 S3 offers the optional front Service LAN for easier system maintenance. Green:

PRIMERGY servers are designed to minimize the environmental impact. Thats why the PRIMERGY TX120 S3 offers a PSU with 94% efficiency and

0-Watt functionality. See Cost-Efficiency: Minimizing Running Costs section below for more details regarding the 0-Watt functionality. . But thats

not all. The PRIMERGY TX120 S3 uses a halogen-free printed circuit board. This is useful when it comes to disposing of the product.

The German Federal Environment Agency (Umweltbundesamt) website

(http://www.umweltbundesamt.de/produkte-e/flammschutzmittel/index.htm) explains the situation: Apart from the positive characteristic of

being fire protective, several flame retardants also have negative attributes to health and environment. Especially some of the halogenated flame

retardants show hazardous impacts to health and environment, are persistent and bio-accumulative. Furthermore, in the case a burning cannot

be prevented, some flame retardants form corrosive or toxic fire gases and toxic decomposition products. The possible formation of dioxins and

furans from polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) during a fire is an example for this.

Versatility and Scalability PRIMERGY TX120 S3

The TX120 S3 comes with a choice of standard or hot-plug HDDs. Thats on top of the 2x 1Gb onboard LAN and the onboard iRMC S3.

With its ultra-compact form factor, it can fit in a high availability environment where space is scarce, but high availability is needed.

    The systems scalability comes from:

    The extensive configuration possibilities

The iRMC S3 which allows a customer to setup a branch infrastructure based on the TX120 S3.

Thanks to the iRMC, a customer could have multiple servers managed remotely from the data center. This could be a possible scenario

for a supermarket chain or bank branches.

    Cost-Efficiency: Minimizing Running Costs

The PRIMERGY TX120 S3 uses top-notch energy efficient tools, which lower the running costs and the environmental impact

    It offers:

Up to 81% more energy efficient performance with the Intel Xeon processor E3-family vs the Intel Xeon processor 3400 series (see

    http://www.intel.com/performance/server/xeonE3-1200/summary.htm and Pre-/Sales slide sets.

Power supplies with up to 94% efficiency and 0-Watt functionality

The TX120 S3 is not only efficient, is the current world-record holder for energy efficiency. On the 16th of June, the TX120 S3, reached a staggering

    4,697 overall ssj_ops/watt in the SPECPower 2008_ssj benchmark, see: http://www.intel.com/performance/server/xeonE3-1200/summary.htm .

The comparison is based on results for the named systems as published at www.spec.org as of 13th October 2011. SPEC and the benchmark

What does the world record mean for the customer? It means more efficient performance and consequently a lower TCO.

We have mentioned the 0-Watt functionality a couple of times already, so now we should look at it in more detail.

The key point about the 0-Watt functionality, is that in SMEs servers are not always running 24x7. This is why it makes sense to switch them off

completely. The graphs below make the situation clear.

The first picture shows a traditional scenario for a system which is idle between 18.00 and 09.00. During this time the system is inactive but still

consumes power (the 32W refer to a hypothetical configuration). With the 0-Watt functionality, the system consumes no power at all and can be

woken up at the time set in the Admin Start and Admin End clock in the BIOS or by pressing the on/off button.

When most systems are switched off they are usually only in soft-off mode, ACPI G2, and this still consumes some power.

The important point to note with the TX120 S3 is that the 0,0W are achieved in mechanical off mode (ACPI state G3 ). For more information on

this mode see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Configuration_and_Power_Interface . When you measure the systems energy consumption

in G3 mode, the power meter will state that the power consumption is 0,0W.

When servers are not in use, they are more often simply idle rather than off.

Therefore the real saving of using the TX120 S3 in 0-Watt mode is:

The power consumption of the TX120 S3 in idle mode (W) minus 0,0W = savings How does the 0-Watt feature work?

0-Watt is the default BIOS setting for the power supply with 94% energy efficiency.

In the BIOS, the administrator can also set an Admin start and Admin end clock in the BIOS for remote administration during the time when the

system is off. During the remote administration time, the system can be woken up via wake on Lan or by pressing the on/off switch.

At the end of the set time period, the system will go into 0-Watt mode (if this has been enabled in the bios). When the system is in 0-Watt mode,

    it can only be woken-up:

At the time set in the BIOS for the remote administration slot (automatic) OR

    By pressing the on/off switch

    Cost-Efficiency: High Performance

Customers dont have time to waste, which is why the PRIMERGY TX120 S3 uses the latest mono processor technologies to remove performance

bottlenecks! Thats why the PRIMERGY TX120 S3 is based on the Intel Bromolow platform.

SMEs dont have unlimited IT resources. On the contrary! SMEs expect their IT resources to be generalists capable of:

    Increasing the companys efficiency

    General IT administration and support

    ServerView management suits saves resources:

Easy integration of PRIMERGY servers into existing landscapes,

Free of charge with every PRIMERGY In the PRIMERGY TX120 S3 we are integrating the new iRMC S3.

The main difference between the iRMC S3 and its predecessor (the iRMC S2), lies in the higher communication speed (1Gbit in iRMC S3 vs

10/100Mbit in iRMC S2). The iRMC S3 is therefore compatible with the latest switch generation.

The iRMC is an autonomous system on the systems motherboard. It has its own operating system, a Web server, user administration and alarm

management and is also supplied with power when the server is in standby mode.

Communication is carried out via a LAN connection, which can be shared with the system or used exclusively for management.

The iRMC forwards the signals from the keyboard, monitor and mouse (KVM) digitally over the network. Apart from the free standard functions,

an iRMC advanced pack can be purchased and enables graphical console redirection and the use of remote storage via USB.

Usage scenarios PRIMERGY TX120 S3 Usage scenarios The PRIMERGY TX120 series has always been about having high server functionality in an ultra-compact form-factor. This is even more so the

case with the TX120 S3, which now supports the Intel Xeon processors E3 family. It now has more expandability than ever before - up to 4 HDD

+ DVD + backup -, but does not cost more than the PRIMERGY TX140 S1.

This feature set makes it ideal for retail environments or other environments where customers have legal obligations to keep records, e.g. doctors

or lawyers. Imagine what would happen to a doctor if their records were lost. With a TX120 S3, the customer has an ultra-compact server in which

they can fit in a backup medium too.

But thats not the whole story. Thanks to the onboard iRMC S3, TX120 S3, can also be connected to a data center.

The TX120 S3 could be used in various departments of, for example, retail stores. Thanks to the onboard iRMC S3, the individual TX120 S3

systems can be connected to the data center.
