Section A (28 Marks)
Answerall questions in this section.
1. A student carries out an experiment to investigate the relationship between the mass attached, m and the
oscillation period, T, of a loaded spring oscillating vertically. The arrangement of the apparatus for the
experiment is shown in Diagram 1.1.
The spring is first attached with a load of m = 50g before being set to oscillate vertically. The time for 10
oscillations, t, is taken by using a stopwatch and its period of oscillation, T, and the value of T2, are calculated.
The experiment is repeated with loads of m = 100g, 150g, 200g and 250g. The corresponding stopwatch readings
are shown in Diagrams 1.2. 1.3, 1.4, 1.5 and 1.6.

tank Q can be seen.
Based on the observation of the depth of the water and the positions of the images of the objects:
a) State one suitable inference. [1 mark]
b) State one suitable hypothesis. [1 mark]
c) With the use of apparatus such as tall beaker, pin, water and other apparatus, describe an experiment to
investigate the hypothesis stated in 3 b).
In your description, state clearly the following:
