Definition

Ability: The Quality of being able to do something, especially the physical, mental, financial, or legal power to accomplish something.

Disability: is defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 as "a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities." Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990,

Ability

Ability is when a person has the skill, knowledge or authority to do something. An example of an ability is: ‘Steven Hawkins’, he is a very inelegant person and is killed at what he does (this is an ability)

However there are also stereotypes about intelligent people and some of them are:

Wears glasses Quiet and shy Books in hands Pencils in shirt pocket Shirt tucked in with highly worn trousers

Super Human Ability Super human abilities are when a

certain person has a power that makes them unique. The idea of super human abilities came from cartoon magazines and they began in the late 1930’s.

An example of a super human ability is Superman, he is a super hero who has the powers to: fly, shoot lasers out of his eyes, super strong, impervious to damage and so on...

There are lots of different stereotypes that are about super heroes and some of them are:

Disability

Disability is when a person has a defect with their body and they are classed as being disabled. An example of a disabled person is Adam Best, this is a character in the TV soap Easterners and he is a disabled man in a wheelchair.

However there are many stereotypes that are associated with disabled people and they are:

In a wheelchair Angry Sad Victims Inspirations Pitiful and sweet Twisted and bitter Sinister and evil Burden and outcaste

Over Coming Disablity

There are people that try to overcome their disability and this is mainly shown in the Olympics and films.

An example of the Olympics is Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson, she is a Paralympics champion 16 times and 11 of them are Gold’s.

An example of a disabled person in a film is the character ‘Charles Xavier’, he is a superhero with physic powers and he can control peoples minds, he isalso the leader of the X-men.
