Building 2D Models • 6-8th Grade Photosynthesis Poster Building Developing and using models to understand science concepts is part of the Science and Engineering Practices integral to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). “In science, models are used to represent a system under study, to aid in the development of questions and explanations, to generate data that can be used to make predictions, and to communicate ideas to others.Modeling in 6–8 builds on K–5 experiences and progresses to developing, using, and revising models to describe, test, and predict more abstract phenomena and design systems. Materials Provided: Copy 6 pages for each student so they can each construct a 2D Model of Photosynthesis. Materials Needed: scissors, crayons/markers, glue sticks, poster boards* for each student (or team) (*Cut the 22x28” boards in half to create 14 x22” posters) Procedures: Following your unit on Photosynthesis, students will color, cut out and build a 2D Model of Photosynthesis, to display and reinforce their understanding of this scientific concept. Included in this bundle (6 pages): 1) Photosynthesis Model Coloring Page 2) ree pages of graphics for the development of the poster (including arrows) 3) One page of text needed for the development of the poster 4) Photosynthesis Model Full Color Mini-Poster ©Sheri Amsel • www.exploringnature.org

Building 2D Models • 6-8th Grade

Photosynthesis Poster BuildingDeveloping and using models to understand science concepts is part of the Science and Engineering Practices integral to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). “In science, models are used to represent a system under study, to aid in the development of questions and explanations, to generate data that can be used to make predictions, and to communicate ideas to others.”

Modeling in 6–8 builds on K–5 experiences and progresses to developing, using, and revising models to describe, test, and predict more abstract phenomena and design systems.

Materials Provided: Copy 6 pages for each student so they can each construct a 2D Model of Photosynthesis.

Materials Needed: scissors, crayons/markers, glue sticks, poster boards* for each student (or team) (*Cut the 22x28” boards in half to create 14 x22” posters)

Procedures:Following your unit on Photosynthesis, students will color, cut out and build a 2D Model of Photosynthesis, to display and reinforce their understanding of this scientific concept.

Included in this bundle (6 pages):1) Photosynthesis Model Coloring Page2) Three pages of graphics for the development of the poster (including arrows)3) One page of text needed for the development of the poster4) Photosynthesis Model Full Color Mini-Poster
