Photosynthesis in DetailChapter 4.3
This stage captures and transfers energy This is the Light-Dependent Reactions Broken into two parts
◦ Photosystem I◦ Photosystem II
This works in a strange order.◦ II occurs before I does (This is tricky to remember)
First Stage
1. Energy Absorbed from Sunlight2. Water Molecules Split3. Hydrogen Ions Transported
Photosystem II
1. Energy is absorbed from sunlight2. NADPH is produced when electrons are
added to NADP+3. Hydrogen Ions diffuse through protein
channel.4. ADP is changed into ATP when hydrogen
ions flow through ATP synthase.
Photosystem I
This stage uses energy from the first stage to make sugars.
This is called Light-Independent Reactions. Also called the Calvin Cycle.
Second Stage
1. Carbon dioxide added2. Three-carbon molecules are formed3. Three-carbon molecules exit4. Three-carbon molecules recycled
