I. Adjustment Layers and Filters

2 Place Original Image And adjust the size

a. File > Place… b. Locate “photo_adjustments.jpg” file c. Double-click layer title and rename “Original”.

Your new layer name should now read: “Original”

e. Readjust the size and placement of your image Zoom Out to View Entire Canvas (Ctrl -) Transform the image (Ctrl + T), Hold Shift + Alt, + Drag a Corner away from the center of canvas

f. Hit Enter/OK to Apply Transformation

3 Save Your Current File with a new name

File > Save As… > “YourInitials_Hue-Saturation.psd” If pop-up window appears Click OK to maximize compatibility (This enables you to use the .psd file in other applications and different versions of Photoshop)

4 Duplicate Background Layer And Rasterize the Image Layer

NOTE: There are 4 ways to Duplicate Layers: In all cases, ensure the “Original” layer is selected 1. MENU BAR

a. Menu Bar > Layer > Duplicate Layer… b. Rename Layer > As: > Red Saturation c. Click OK

2. LAYER OPTIONS BUTTON a. Go To Layers Panel b. Click Layer Options Button c. Rename Layer > As: > Red Saturation d. Click OK

3. RIGHT-CLICK MOUSE a. Go To Layers Panel b. Select Original layer and Right-Click c. Rename Layer > As: > “Red Saturation” d. Click OK

4. DRAG ORIGINAL LAYER TO NEW LAYER ICON a. Go To Layers Panel b. Select Original layer and Drag Down To c. Place cursor over “Original copy” d. Double-Click “Original copy” e. Type “Red Saturation” f. Hit Enter (Win) or Return (Mac)

RASTERIZING LAYERS: To apply a simple image adjustment (from the Image menu), a layer must be converted from a smart object to a rasterized image. Simple image adjustments are destructive and cannot be edited after an adjustment is applied. For this reason we duplicate the Original layer for safekeeping. I. Rasterize the Red Saturation layer image by

selecting the layer in the layers panel, then: Right-Click > Rasterize or Go to Menu Bar and click/hover Layer > Rasterize > Smart Object

5 Duplicate 6 more Layers Rename The layers as follows:

1. Green Saturation 2. Blue Saturation 3. Warm Photo Filter 4. Cool Photo Filter 5. Colorize 6. Desaturation

6 Hide All Layers except “Red Saturation” and “Original”

a. Go to Layers Panel b. Click eyeball to the left of each layer thumbnail

except for the “Red Saturation” and “Original” layer

(Ctrl +U) (Cmd+U) 7 Boost the Red a. Go to Menu Bar > Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation

9 Create Warm Effect a. Go to Menu Bar > Image > Adjustments > Photo Filter…

b. Increase Color Filter to 75% c. Keep Preserve Luminosity checked d. Click OK REPEAT STEPS FOR:

10 Colorize Image a. Go to Menu Bar > Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation

3 Use New Adjustment Layer to increase Red and Blue Levels for “Desaturation” Layer

a. Click New Fill and Adjustment Layer icon (Fig. B) b. Choose Levels… c. Rename the Levels 1 Layer “Red-Blue Overlay” d. In the Preset drop down menu, choose Custom e. In the RGB drop down menu, choose Red f. Click the Auto button (Sets true B/W/Gray levels)

NOTE FOR HISTOGRAM AREA: -Pulling black slider to right reduces amount of red and introduces it’s RGB complimentary color, while preserving the black in shadow areas -Pulling the white slider to the left increases the amount of red in the white filled areas of your image, while preserving the black in shadow areas

NOTE FOR OUTPUT AREA: -Pulling black slider to right increases amount of red in the black shadow areas -Pulling the white slider to the left increases the amount of RGB complimentary color in the white (highlighted) filled areas of your image

g. In the Output Area pull black slider right to 130 h. In the Output Area pull white slider left to 50

NOTE: Make best adjustments for your image. Avoid noise (speckle) appearance

i. In the RGB drop down menu, choose Blue j. In the Histogram area, pull black slider right to

96 and the white slider left to 211 k. In the Output Area pull black slider right to 45 l. File > Save m. Toggle Hide/Reveal (Eyeball) to observe
