Classic Tidbits• Emergencies are welcome and usually seen the same day.• Staffing allows quick scheduling for appointments.• Atmosphere is both high-tech and homey.• Full range of services are provided in-house, including cosmetic dentistry, root canal therapy, oral surgery, dentures and all aspects of restorative dentistry.• We will help you finance your dental work.

Classic Dental Factoids • Flossing is not optional. It’s even more important than brushing since most cavities and gum disease originate between teeth, where only the floss can go! Man, ya just gotta floss ‘em!

• The frequency of sugar intake is more important than the amount of sugar cos- sumed. Cavity makers include sodas with sugar, sugar added to coffee and tea, sports drinks, kids’ drinks, hard candy, and fruit juices (sugar + acid) as snacks during the day.

• Kids who drink fluoridated water from birth to age 12 have over 60% fewer cavities than kids who don’t!

• Although milk is good for growing kids, remember that the lactose it contains is sugary and must be cleaned off the teeth, especially at bed time.

• Brushing 100 times a day carelessly is not as good as doing it right morning and night. Remember: the job’s only half done if you don’t floss!

You are also invited to visit the Classic Dental office in Lake Mary, where Dr. Butch Garcia and Dr. Jim Flatley share 50 years of combined experience.

Q: Why should I come to the dentist if nothing’s bothering me?A: Dental problems frequently start out as painless things we dentists can detect by looking in your mouth or at X-rays of your teeth. If you wait until you have pain, you’ve waited too long. Remember that dental problems don’t normally go away by themselves and only get more expensive as time goes on. Pre-empt-ing problems is always the best way to prevent infection, dental pain—and wallet pain!

Q: My husband is driving me crazy with snoring! Can you help?A: We have had nearly 100% success in helping couples get back to sleeping to-gether all night long, with a special anti-snoring appliance worn like a retainer at night. Both the snore-ER and the snore-EE sleep better.

Q: When is a crown necessary instead of just putting a filling in my tooth?A: Crowns are necessary when a large portion of your tooth has been damaged or weakened by cavities, cracks or fractures. The crown is a metal or porce-lain covering that completely surrounds and covers the tooth to protect and strengthen it. Crowns are cemented, with special dental cement, onto the tooth after we shape the tooth and have it fabricated by our dental lab.

Q: My kids drink only bottled water. Isn’t that better for them?A: If you want your kids to have good teeth for a lifetime, you must ensure they drink fluoridated water! It is unbelievably important for their enamel to be built permanently harder by drinking water with fluoride in it.

The fluoride passes via the bloodstream into the teeth as they begin to form deep in the jaws. Children from birth to age 12 need fluoridated water to get this huge benefit. Oddly enough, there are a few regions in Central Florida that do not fluoridate the water. We will prescribe fluoride supplements for your children if your water isn’t fluoridated.

Q: Can I get my teeth whitened?A: We have a new whitening system, which whitens teeth in one visit. We also offer at-home whitening you can do yourself. We’ll be glad to discuss either option with you.
