A FEW QUICK NOTES

Please Note the Following Before Use:

Do not submerge this device. While it is designed for field use, it is not waterproof.This device is designed for use with NECi’s enzyme based test kits for nitrate and phosphate. We cannot guarantee that it will provide accurate results with other products.Prevent dust, dirt, liquid, and other particulates from entering the cuvette holder and charging ports.

NECi’s handheld photometer is currently optimized for use with Android devices only. Stay tuned for

expanded device compatibility in the future.Although the photometer should work with any

Android device, devices running Android 4.0 or newer are recommended.

It should be noted that some issues may arise when using Android version 5.0 or

5.01 specifically regarding Bluetooth connection. To resolve these

issues, simply reset the Bluetooth connection (Turn off and then

on again). Contact NECi for further support at

[email protected] or (906) 296-1130.

To check which version of the Android software is installed on your device, refer to:

Settings > About Phone/Tablet > Android Version 1

PAIR THE PHOTOMETER

1. Visit www.nitrate.com/mobile-apps on your mobile device, then select the“Download on Google Play” button under “Handheld Photometer App” OR Search for “NECi Photometer” in the Google Play store.2. Select “INSTALL” on Google Play store. Follow prompts.

*If your device isn’t set up for automatic updates, find the application in the Google Play store and tap on “update” when one is available. We will notify you when there is an update available.

1. Navigate to Bluetooth settings under your device’s main settings. Make sure Bluetooth is turned on.2. Hold down the photometer power switch until the power indicator turns red. The light will turn green when the photometer is ready to use. *If the power light does not turn on, charge for at least 4 hours.

4. The photometer will appear in the Bluetooth menu under available devices. This should match the device ID printed on the side of your photometer. Select the devicethen select “Pair” when prompted.7. Navigate to the NECi Photometer App.8. Select the settings icon.9. Tap on Selected Photometer then choose the device ID printed on the side of your photometer. *If the device ID does not appear in this menu, click “Cancel” and tap on Selected Photometer again to view your device. If this does not resolve the issue, please contact NECi for further assistance.

LOADING CUVETTES

APP MAIN MENU OVERVIEWAllows the user to take readings and store them in a sample list. These lists store readings with any other data collected (Location + Timestamp).

Allows user to take an individual reading and display the result without storing it in a sample list.

Includes software development information, as well as photometer set-up options.

Provides contact info for troubleshooting or questions regarding the application or photometer.

When using the phosphate kits, line up the arrow located on the face of the cuvette with the light source indicator on the photometer. Cuvettes should be handled on the sides only. Wipe both faces of each cuvette with a clean lens cloth or facial tissue before inserting into the cuvette holder for accurate results. Nitrate cuvettes may be loaded in either orientation.

Phosphate Kit Blank

Pour contents of tube with white dot into cuvette with white dot. Cap cuvette.

Fill cuvette with white dot with clean, clear, tap water. Cap cuvette.

Nitrate Kit Blank

Blanking the photometer is essential for obtaining accurate results. This tells the device what “zero” is. The photometer must be blanked every time it is turned on and every time it is switched between reading nitrate and phosphate. Each kit will be supplied with a blank cuvette which is marked with a white dot sticker.

For quickly displaying an individual sample result without saving it to a sample list. The photometer must be blanked for the correct analyte before taking a reading.

The first time the application is used, the menu will not contain any lists. If lists have previously been created by the user, they should be listed in this area.

To create a list, tap the icon at the top of the screen.

1. Type in the desired list name.

2. Select Nitrate or Phosphate by tapping.

3. Select sample type by swiping left & right.

4. If GPS tracking is desired, make sure this box is checked.

5. Tap the “Save” button.

The list should now appear in the table of sample lists. Once a list has been selected, samples may be added, viewed, edited, or deleted.

To Export Lists as CSV Files1. Go to “Manage Sample Lists”.

2. Select desired list to export.

3. Tap the icon.

4. Select the application you wish to share the CSV with.

2. To return to the sample list, tap the icon.

Adding Samples to a List

Modifying Groups of SamplesPressing and holding on a sample will provide an option menu along the top of your device. You may then select multiple samples. Using buttons on top you may move them to an available list (of the same type) or group delete. Both of these functions have a 5 second “Undo” feature that will appear at the bottom of the screen.

1. Select a previously created sample list from the table to view or edit it.

2. Once a list has been selected, tap the icon to add a sample. The new sample dialogue box should appear.

3. Choose a name for the sample. If a name is not chosen, the application will automatically assign a name (i.e. “Sample 1”).

4. Click on “Take Reading” to retrieve reading from the paired photometer.

5. To retrieve current location, click “Get Location”.

6. Date and time may be entered manually or by clicking “Get Current Date/Time” to automatically apply the current date and time.

7. When all information is entered, tap “Save”. The application will return to the selected list of stored samples.

8. Repeat steps 2-7 to read multiple samples.

SETTINGS

This shows which photometer is currently paired if multiple photometers are being used.

Select this check box if you would like to simplify significant digits and round negative results to 0.

Select this option if the software crashes or is not behaving properly. This will allow the user to e-mail a report to the development team to resolve the issue and correct future releases of the software.

Use this to help the tech support team resolve your issue.

This function is essential for obtaining accurate results. Refer to page 5 for detailed blanking instructions.

TROUBLESHOOTINGProblem: Device is not responding, slowly responding, or crashing repeatedlySolution #1: Reset Pairing1. Under settings, go to “Bluetooth”.2. Locate the photometer that is paired with the device.3. Unpair the device by tapping the icon on the right side that corresponds to the device name and then select “Unpair”.4. Re-pair the device by choosing it in the list of available devices to pair.5. Wait for the dialogue box called “Bluetooth pairing request”, select OK.

Solution #2: Fully ChargeMake sure the photometer is fully charged (at least 4 hours for a full charge).

Problem: Device is responding but showing incorrect resultsSolutions:1. Make sure device is fully charged, as mentioned above.2. If measuring results of the phosphate test kits, make sure that the arrow on the top of the cuvette is pointing towards the arrow on the top of the cuvette and that the cuvette is clean and free of dust and fingerprints.
