“To my mind, the greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted.” – Bill Bryson
Philadelphia is our home. We have documented its many neighborhoods, seen it on both good and bad days, and understand its streets and people. But as journalists, it is vital to explore new surroundings and unknown streets. Photojourneyalism is what happened when we each ventured outside of the places we know and into the cities and towns we chose to become acquainted with. From Maine to Puerto Rico, Dr. Trayes’ Fall 2011 Photojournalism class explored a collection of new places in order to find their differences and similarities. Scavenging for mom & pop shops, unique characters, means of transportation and the water that unites us as humans, Photojourneyalism presents our findings in still images, text and multimedia mediums. This book (website) records our individual trips, from both a personal and journalistic standpoint. The following pages reveal our findings, both good and bad.

WaterMany places revolve around a body of water - rivers, lakes, oceans, bays. But
even when they don’t, water is essential to life. How does water play a part in
people’s lives?
