COVER PAGEThe main image for my cover page is going to be a male character. I have chosen a male

over female character because I feel like pop music can be very male dominated. He will be wearing modern day clothing that is fashionable in the present day. This is important because then the reader can see what the fashionable thing is to wear and make them want to look like the character. The clothing is going to consist of adidas clothing because teenaged boys are very likely to wear adidas. The character will also wear a Nike hat to reflect the clothing of teenaged boys. I am aiming for the clothing to look like what a normal teenager would wear so that they can relate to the magazine more. It will also reflect the target audience I am aiming for. The character will be pulling a straight face instead of smiling and will be looking away from the camera. This will look good because the character will look like they are looking at the sub headings next to them. The character will be shot as a medium shot so that the audience can see what the character is wearing as well as his face. Most magazine covers use a studio shot, therefore I am not going to do the same because I want to give my magazine a difference to other magazines. The character will instead be standing against a brick wall to make the character look more edgy. The pattern of the brick wall is all the same so it won’t be drawing attention to the background which is good. This is because I would prefer the character to be dominant in the front cover. Sub headings will be positioned around the character so that they don’t cover up the male completely. This is also giving more dominance to the male which is what I am aiming for. I am not going to include an image of an actual CD but I am going to advertise a free CD at the bottom of the front cover to try and persuade people to read the magazine. The reason I am not telling the reader which CD it is, is so that it remains a mystery for the reader to find out when they look inside. This gives the magazine uniqueness compared to other magazines. By getting people drawn in by the front cover will persuade people to look inside the magazine.

CONTENTS PAGEFor the main image for the contents page I am going to use a shot taken outside in a natural

setting. Personally, I think this is a good option because it will give the image naturalistic lighting and make the character look like she is in her everyday life style. One of these ideas is sat outside on a wall. I think this would give the page an interesting look and it will also make the character look more edgy looking and cool. The character is going to be in a medium-long shot. I have chosen this type of shot because the audience will be able to see the background, the characters face and what the character is wearing which is important. The female will be dressed in cool, casual modern clothing like a bomber jacket to reflect the clothing of teenagers in the 21st century. This will make the image look vibrant and eye catching to the audience. For the contents age I am going to use a female character because the main image on the cover page will be a male. I want there to be a varied gender in my magazine so I am going to alternate between male and females. I am going to position the female sat on a wall with her hands on her knees. She will not be looking at the camera but over to the side instead, similarly to the front cover. I think it gives more of a cool look instead of looking the reader directly in the face. My contents page will similar to the one shown on the left, I think this looks good because the character isn’t dominating the page but they still have importance by being positioned in the right hand corner with no text near them. The only text that will be positioned near the female will be the page number and sub heading representing who the artist is in the image and where to find the article about them. This will be positioned at the bottom of the image so that it is clearly out of the way of the character. I want the text in the page to mainly dominate the picture because it is important that it is easy for the reader to see where to find what page they are looking for. Above the contents will be the title ‘Contents’ to represent what the page is, alongside the date of the issue and the year we are in. This will all be inside a black banner running along the top of the page to separate this from the rest of the page. By having a banner it clearly shows to the reader that it is the heading of the page. It is important to make it as clear as possible to the reader.

DOUBLE PAGE SPREADFor my double page spread I am going to use a long shot of a character. I think this will look good

because you will be able to see the persons face as well as what they are wearing. The image is going to cover the whole double page spread with the text over the top of it. I think this will look affective because the reader will be able to read the text easily but it is giving more dominance to the text which is what I am aiming for. The text is the most important page of the double page spread so my making the character more dominant would not work. I think it is important that the image fills the whole double page spread because it makes the two pages connect together so it is clear that they are part of the same article. Similarly to the top left image, the headline of the article will have rectangles around them to make the text stand out more. This also suits the theme of the magazine and makes the article look less formal. I am also going to make certain words in the heading bigger than others to emphasise that particular word to the read. Also as shown on the top left, the different sub headings will be presented inside a rectangular box that will be coloured red. This makes the sub headings stand out clearly to the reader where there is a new section of information. The aim is to make it as easy as possible for the reader to read. One of my main ideas for the image is a female character with her feet up. With this image, I can position the text so that it goes around the characters leg. This also means that the character won’t be covered in text, she will still be visible to the reader. The character will be wearing ripped jeans, trainers and a fashionable top. Ripped jeans will especially look effective because it is conforming to the theme of the magazine, it gives the character an edgy look. This is also the typical fashion for a teenager so it will make the readers feel more welcome and involved in the magazine if they have the same fashion sense as the characters featuring in Muse Mag. The text will be in columns. I have chosen columns because it makes the text easier to read instead of trying to read a large chunk of text all at once. Columns also look more formal and professional. You don’t find many magazines where the text isn’t positioned into columns. The text colour will be black because this is a bold colour and it is important that the text is readable. Therefore, I am going to make sure that the image doesn’t contain any dark parts that will make the writing difficult to read.
