Process: 1. Select a photographer from the given list.  Each student should choose a different photographer. 2. Research the photographer.  Find out:

a. Biographical information  date of birth/death, family, growing up, etc. b. Body of work  what kinds of photos did he/she take?  Why?  Describe in detail what they look

like. Did he/she work for a publication? What was his/her occupation (artist, photojournalist, blogger, etc.)?

c. Impact  what was it that put this photographer on the map?  What did they do that “changed” the way we see photography?  Why do people think that this photographer is worth mentioning or putting in a gallery?  What can we learn from him/her?

d. Personal reaction  investigate your own feelings about the photographer and his/her work.  How do you think their work can inform your own?

Write a paper based on your research.  Write in your own voice, but observe spelling, grammar and punctuation.  Avoid slang.  Requirements for the paper:

e. Typed, 12point font (Times New Roman or Arial)

3. Select at least 10 examples of your pro’s work, and save to a flash drive. 4. Armed with your research, you are to create at least 5 photos in the style of your pro photographer.  Try

using similar subject matter, lighting, etc.  Show that you’ve learned something. 5. Using the information from your paper, the images you’ve found as well as the photo series you’ve

taken, create a presentation using the online presentation tool Prezi.  It’s free and graphically beautiful. Create an account and start with a blank template.  View tutorials on how to create presentations if you are unfamiliar.

6. Present to the class.  During peer presentations, we will all take notes on your pro photographer and provide feedback.  Info gleaned from presentations may be included on a future quiz.

7. After all presentations are complete, you will write 2 separate blog posts: j. An abbreviated, less formal version of your paper.  Talk about the photographer, what you

learned.  Include photos of his/her work in the body of the post. k. A post that includes your 5 photos that interpret your pro photographer’s style. Write a little

paragraph about how the pro photographer inspired your work.  Mention the things your photos have in common with the pro’s.

A Few Words About Plagiarism: Plagiarism is a serious offense  when you use someone else’s work and try to pass it off as your own.  Do not lift information directly from Wikipedia and expect me to give you credit  it is the FIRST place I look when I’m suspicious.  Any indication of plagiarism will give you a ZERO as your grade and will result in a meeting between you, me, your parents and a school administrator.  Keep in mind  I don’t want to hear some bozo on the internet’s opinion.  I want to know what you think.
