BASIC TECHNIQUES

• ANGLE- up, down, straight• PAN- forward, left, right• DISTANCE- close, medium, far• LEVEL- eye, high, low• FOCUS- soft, sharp• FRAMING- subject, shapes, space, composition

TYPES OF PHOTOGRAPHY• STILL LIFE

Capturing objects on camera that are deliberately grouped together to create a certain composition.

Photographer should pay attention to composition and lighting.

Creating texture and adding interest to otherwise normal objects.

• NATURE

1.LANDSCAPE- highlight natural beauty of places

2.WILDLIFE- animals against beautiful backdrops

3.CLOUDSCAPE- various images of clouds; Black and white works nicely

4.ARCHITECTURAL- different styles of architecture in different light; very technical

• PORTRAIT

Capturing the mood of a person with an emphasis on the face and expression.

Not only about professional models, ordinary people make for some of the most stunning portraits.

There are many creative ways to make a portrait look interesting and feel emotional.

• FINE ART

Visuals that resemble works of art.

Highly creative images with an abstract appeal.

Equivalent to an artist’s expression on canvas.

Requires the photographer to have the ability to look beyond the obvious.

• SPORTS

Captures the best action images from any kind of sport.

Must capture images with great speed and precision.

These photographs are mainly used by publishing houses and media outlets.

• BLACK & WHITE

Offers vast options for photographers.

Timeless appeal can be used for any topic.

Need to use lighting and textures apart from composition to be rewarded with appealing and beautiful photographs.

CAMERAS: DIGITAL, MANUAL, CELL PHONE

Digital cameras allow for greater ease in photo taking and sharing. Because of this, we will be using these cameras almost exclusively.

We will have access to some manual cameras and even cell phone cameras.

Pictures can be emailed to [email protected] and will, with permission, be posted on Mr. Martella’s Webpage via Flickr.
