Unit G321 – Foundation Portfolio in Media – Photo-shoot Plan Project title: FINAL IDEA Project: Production of the Hail Magazine cover, contents page and DPS. Project Description: Photographer: I chose this magazine masthead because I thought that it created a similar effect to the Kerrang! Magazine masthead. It represents movement, hand-made feeling and perhaps some violence in which male audiences can relate to. The word is ‘Hail’ because it may communicate to the audiences, the high quality of the magazine as well as the rock n roll genre- which makes the audiences feel proud of buying it. This photography plan is for photo shooting a model (ie: Anthony Rixon) for the magazine front cover, contents page and the DPS. The locations are going to be different, and props are going to vary amongst the pages too- but the model will stay the same. The photographer is going to be myself, as then I will gain control on how and what i would like to shoot. In terms of shot types, the magazine cover will consist of a man holding a guitar in an unconventional way, from a low angle. I chose low angle because it would represent to the audiences, that he is a star and would have a star appeal (Dyer). The shot will be in a medium shot, to reveal his clothing as well as facial expressions and the prop. Although the lighting could be altered on photoshop, I would prefer it being taken in a lighter environment than darker, because all the facial features and details on the cloths would be clear. For Post production, I will put a little bit of saturating effect on the images, as this will bring familiarity for the older audiences (40’s) as well as not being too old for the younger. This may catch people’s attention too, because it is different and unique from other magazines which tends to use black/white or fully coloured.

Project title: FINAL IDEA

Project: Production of the Hail Magazine cover, contents page and DPS.

Project Description:

Photographer:

I chose this magazine masthead because I thought that it created a similar effect to the Kerrang!

These images above are a set of ‘fit for purpose’ main images for my music magazine. The first main magazine image is suitable because of the model’s sense of power or the star appeal (Dyer). The hair colour stands out too, which makes it a very modern looking magazine also. It will appeal to the younger audiences, but perhaps not as much to older generations, as this doesn’t represent respect. The second image for the Kerrang DPS, is there because I like the fact that they have used a main image of a conventional rock musician (playing a guitar) but also using it as part of the background as well. I think this produces unity between the article, artist and the reader. The third image- which is took by me, is there also because I think the pose / action that he is making and the facial expression, is suitable for a rock genre. Casting:

Model requirements:

Wardrobe and Look:

My models are going to be male. The boy in the first image is suitable because he looks active, entertaining and he is tall, which is suitable for a model. As the hair style is actually quite casual, the audiences may be able to relate to him. The second person would be suitable for perhaps part of the contents page, as this means that older audiences are being inclusive, having a range of different age of rock music. His hair style and the range of facial expressions that he can have is also suitable. The third image is of my brother, who is tall and quite skinny. On the image, he has a star appeal (Dyer) as the camera angle and the angle of his eyes allows him to appear calm and confident. His top is conventional for a rock star to wear too. Finally for the last image, he is the type of person who would look good on the front cover, because he has the conventional looks of a rock star, with long hair, leather Jacket, and rock t-shirt. He is also tall.

This type of a model musician is what I intend to put for the main model for my magazine. This is because he is tall enough that a medium long shot will fit into a frame / page, but also he has an attitude that represents wildness, passion for music, but also respect that both younger and older people appreciate. Clothing like what he is wearing will be suitable because it shows casualness and friendliness, as well as a ‘uniform’ look to it, because of the dark colour. His action of singing clearly presents him as a musician, and I wish to take images of a model with an instrument, to represent them as a musician.

Hair and Make up:

Where:

The place of photoshoot will be within school, outside where bricks of building and grass will be of good use, and it would be easier perhaps for the model too, if the shooting is within school time. The photography studio is available most times as well, for professional shooting with lighting etc.

When:

In my production plan, the date for the photoshoot is supposed to be: the 12th November 2014. The time will be in breaks / lunch (12:35 - 1:20), and free periods, that I will arrange with the model so that he can come.

I chose these items as the fundamental looks of the model for my main magazine cover and DPS image. because this is one of the conventional clothing and stereotypes of a rock n roll musician. The leather Jacket represents rebellion but matureness at the same time, and jeans represents casualness, with the guitar being the main Rock musical instrument and the necklace representing a star appeal (Dyer).

For the hair style, I will find someone that has long hair, of up to perhaps their shoulders. I think it would make an interesting personality representation if it is curly, as it has more movement than being straight. Make-up is not needed unless clear facial features such as the eyes (mainly the eyes) is not as visible, or doesn’t stand out etc.
