Handwriting To develop handwriting skills the children will take part in daily pattern practice. This teaches children how to draw the shapes needed to write letters.

Children will also have the opportunity to take part in a range of practical experi-ence to develop finger dexterity such as:

Woodworking, Clay work, Threading, Arts and Crafts, Using Tweezers and Gra-bers. Construction, Cutting and Mark Making

The children will be developing these skills in a range of ways. These include the following:

Story maps – learning to retell favourite stories and talk about characters, developing imagination and language skills

learning to measure ingredients

imagination through recreating experiences and situations

Artist Corner - Children are free to use a range of resources to

make their own natural artwork.

Self portraits – paying attention to detail, learning how to mix colours.

Adventures and Experiences In EYFS we believe that children should be prepared for the tests of life rather than a life of tests. We aim to teach children the skills needed to learn so their learning potential is not limited to the classroom.

During the this half term you child will enjoy experiences where they develop their skills in:

Communication and language Personal, Social and Emotional

Physical Development Literacy Mathematics

Understanding the World Expressive Arts and Design

Maps – using imagination to draw and label own maps, look at different features of the landscape, similarities and differences between them.

Small world – develop imagination and taking on the role of other characters.

Loose parts play – use imagination and creativity to make traps to catch Little Rabbit Foo Foo and other ‘Baddies’.

Numbers to 20 – one to one correspondence, recognising numerals 0 – 20.

Physical Education-The children will be developing the core skills of a sense of balance.

settlement making as well as transient art

We are Mathematicians!

Children will be taking part in daily Maths experiences. These experiences include whole class gatherings, group activities,

independent and 1:1 activities. These experiences will be practical and visual.

Five Stories a Day

It is recommended that children hear five stories a day. The benefits of reading with your child are:

* Books and stories help children develop language and imaginative thinking.

* Children who enjoy reading are likely to become confident learners. It can be-

come a hobby they go on to enjoy all their lives.

* Stories can help children deal with the problems and fears they face in every-

day life.

If you don’t enjoy reading or find it a struggle, you still need to show children

that reading is important by telling stories and having books around the house.

Reading

We want to ignite a love of reading within each child. This half term we will be bringing many stories to life through exciting

provocations such as letters from story characters or Breaking News scenarios that feature book characters needing help from the

children. Our author of the half term is Michael Rosen. We will explore the story of Little Rabbit Foo Foo and We’re Going on a

Bear Hunt, as well as poems such as Chocolate Cake.

How does Reading help my child? Sharing books and stories also help children to:

* Learn about the world.

* Learn about people and their lives.

* Develop their imagination.

Supporting your children to read at an early age can:

* Helping your child accept their feelings and understand how others feel.

* Children who learn to read independently, at an early stage in their life, can access the written world leading to richer vocabulary, improved writing and

can articulate oral communication.

Stories help develop confidence

* Special story time at bedtime can help your child look forward to going to

bed, to enjoy being close to you and to relax, ready for sleep.

* Books can help your child to escape for a while and take their imagination

to other wonderful places.

Reading Passports: This term your child will be receiving their own Reading

Passport. These include selected texts we believe your children would love to hear

and share. Once their Passport is completed your child will be rewarded with a certificate.
