During my senior year, I decided to interview for the Management in Trainee program for Starwood Hotels & Resorts. After two exten- sive interviews, I was selected to be the Management Trainee at the Sheraton Waikiki Resort and The Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Resort. A few months into my program, the Sheraton Waikiki Resort was looking for someone to fill a short-term Housekeeping Manager position, so I was pulled to task-force as Housekeeping Manager. The Director of Human Resources from the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa remembered me from my management trainee interview and called to tell me he had an opening for a Property Operations Man- ager. I flew to Maui to interview with the General Manager and two weeks later I moved back home to Maui. I am currently a Property Operations Manager at the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa and oversee both housekeeping and maintenance associates. The knowledge I gained from the TIM School and the three internships I complet- ed helped me become the manager I am today. I look forward to learning more from each position I obtain through my career, however, my experiences at the TIM School were truly invaluable.”

At the TIM School, we are committed to help prepare you for your

future and we strive to provide you with opportunities that will not

only challenge you in the classroom but through your internships as

well. The goal of our internship program is to give you the hands-

on, front-line, and management experience that will allow you

to use what you learn in the classroom in the "laboratory of the real

world".

TIM 100 All TIM majors are required to first enroll in TIM 100 which meets

in a classroom setting twice a week. This class provides you with

the tools that will help you to select and obtain an internship

(resume and cover letter writing, interview attire, interviewing

skills, business etiquette, etc.) and ultimately, a career opportunity

that is right for you. Through individual research projects, group

discussions, and guest speakers, you will learn about the various

segments of the travel industry, specific company operations, and

the array of duties and responsibilities that comes with management

positions.

At the TIM School we have fantastic travel industry supporters. Below is a list of some of the companies where our

students have fulfilled their internship requirements or landed jobs after graduation:

TIM 200 The focus is a written report describing and reflecting on

your 400-hour work experience, discussing your personal

internship goals, and comparing the theories learned in

class with what you experience in the field. Your intern-

ship provider offers guidance through a midpoint and final

evaluation. You will also continue to hone your profes-

sional business writing skills.

TIM 300 or TIM 400B/400C At this level of internship, you are now ready to work at a

higher level position; one with more responsibility. The

options to complete this internship level are: TIM 300, the

regular advance internship; TIM 400, the Executive Intern-

ship; or the Community Service Internship.

Students get

hands on

experience

through their

various

internship sites.
