Principal’s Report
Mothers’ Day Stall Thank you to Mrs Stephenson and all the mums who helped out at the Mothers’ Day Stall last week. The children were very excited to buy some of these lovely gifts and even more excited to give them to the special people in their lives on Mothers’ Day. I trust you all had a lovely weekend!
Gymnastics Program Kindergarten, Year 1 and 2C have been enjoying gymnastics lessons for the past 3 weeks. This program will run for the term where our students have been engaging in a sequential gymnastics program designed to provide a fun, challenging environment fundamental for a child’s growth and development. A note will come home shortly for all other years. The cost for the term (10 weeks of lessons) is $40.00 per student. If you would like your child to attend, please make this payment to the office and return the permission slip to your child’s teacher.
NAPLAN Years 3 and 5 Students in Year 3 and Year 5 are participating in the Online NAPLAN tests in Week 3 and Week 4 of this term. On Tuesday, we had the start of the tests beginning with Writing.
This will be followed by the Reading, Conventions of Language and Numeracy to finish!
Can you please ensure your child arrives on time to school so they are not late for any of the tests? There is a tight timeframe especially with the use of computers for all students and we need to get started by the allocated time in order to get through all of the students. Thank you for your support with this.
Good luck to all students in Years 3 and 5. I am sure you are doing your personal best and will continue to do so next week.
These tests run over a 2 week period and I would like to thank Mrs Rayner and Miss Drabsch for all their effort in ensuring they run smoothly for all involved.

Junior Rugby League Gala Day On Wednesday 8 May, our Junior Rugby League Team attended the Under 10’s Woy Woy Cup.
We won our first game against OLR Wyoming convincingly 16-0, followed by a gritty 6-4 win against Woy
Woy South. We then drew our third game against Brisbania. During our 4th and 5th games against Ettalong
and Empire Bay, our opponents were too strong for us, but the team never stopped trying.
The boys had an awesome day and showed sportsmanship and determination throughout each and every
game. Thanks to all the parents who helped with transport, and who came down and watched throughout
the day. It is always great to see you all down there!

Taking care of the school and our environment This week our school has had the benefit of receiving ongoing beautification and looking after by key members of the school community. Both students and some members of staff, under the direction of Mrs Dyga, did some amazing work placing mulch on some of our garden beds, to decrease the loss of moisture currently occurring during this dry period. The school also acknowledges Mr Peter Russell, a member of our community who has supported the ongoing beautification of our school over a number of years. This also included this week, spending over an hour fixing the gate to ensure the security of the school grounds. Thank you to our school community for demonstrating respect, responsibility and personal best.

PBL News We are trialling 2 new initiatives in PBL starting Monday 20 May.
Blue Slips As you would be aware, students receive a blue slip on the playground for minor incidents including;
Refusal to follow a request
Inappropriate comments - put downs, teasing, name calling ,Inappropriate tone/ attitude – answering back
Swearing
Minor physical contact – pushing in lines, rough play
Unsafe behaviour
Inappropriate use of playground equipment
Littering
Out of bounds repeatedly
Commencing Monday 20 May, if a student has 3 blue slips in a term, they will be placed on a weekly playground
card and their behaviour will be carefully monitored. A letter will be sent home to parents informing them that their
child will be on a playground card.
Morning Assembly Green Lori Cards At our morning assemblies our student leaders reward students who are showing Respect, Responsibility and
Personal Best with Red, Blue and White Lori cards. Starting Monday 20 May, they will also be handing out green
Lori tickets to parents in the COLA area who are showing our school values. Parents will then be able to give
these tickets to their children to be placed in class rewards boxes.
If you have any questions about these 2 new initiatives please come and speak to Mrs Rayner.

Central Coast Choral Festival Rehearsal 1 at Avoca Beach Public School on Thursday 9 May 2019 Hi! I’m Jasmine Nazzy! I went to Avoca Beach Public School. It was so much fun! I loved learning songs and meeting my friends from netball! There were many schools and a huge hall where we stayed most of the time. My favourite bit was… ALL OF IT! We mostly learned songs and techniques for singing! Jasmine J 5B
The Choral Festival Rehearsal was excellent. We were singing all day! We learnt song after song. We had breaks throughout and their equipment was great. Four of Kariong Public’s students were chosen for the ensemble! The choir was huge! It was at Avoca Beach School. I learnt that there was an ensemble. Emily W 5F
My name is Megan and I went to the first rehearsal for the Central Coast Choral Festival (CCCF). It was at Avoca Beach Public School, where we learnt about songs and sang them. I learnt about who was running it and I learnt that there were 300 kids in the combined choir! My favourite part was seeing a baby kookaburra sit on a classroom and watch the children play all lunch. My rating for the rehearsal is ten out of ten! Megan H 5B
