The 19th Annual MonDak Pulse Day will take place Thurs-day, February 7, 2019 at the Area Recreation Center in Williston,ND. Registration for the event will begin at 8:30 a.m. Central timeand speaker presentations will begin at 9:00 a.m. Registrationfee will be $20 per person, payable at the door.

Hemp Growers Petition MDA To Create Hemp Advisory Committee

Helena, Mont. – The Montana Department of Agriculture

growers to create the Montana Hemp Advisory Committee. MDA will hold two listening sessions to receive input regarding the proposed checkoff committee. Meetings are scheduled for January 31 in Sidney and February 7 in Helena.

The meetings will give growers the opportunity to learn about upcoming changes to the Montana State Hemp Program due to the 2018 Farm Bill, hear about the process of establishing a commodity advisory committee, and provide input regarding a proposed assessment and method of collection. Producers present at the meetings will vote to determine whether to hold a referendum by paper ballot of all known hemp growers in the state. If that referendum passes, MDA will propose a hemp research and market development program for adoption by administrative rule.

The annual trade show and education forum MonDak Ag Days and Trade Show is set for Thursday, March 7, and Friday, March 8, at the Richland County Event Center in Sidney.

Badlands Bulleyes 4-H Shooting Sports Club is proud to announce the Second Annual Badlands Roundup 4-H Archery Match will be held on Saturday, January 26 at the Rough Rider Center Fieldhouse in Watford City.

9:30 am to 1:45 pm. Beginner, Junior and Senior Barebow participants will shoot 30 arrows at 15 yards. Senior Freestyle shoot 60 arrows at 20 yards.

About 150 4-Hers, ranging in age from 8 to 18 years, will participate in this match.

The public is invited to attend this free contest. Food will be served all day.

nesses and organizations to be aware that a Texas-based company, Universal Ad, is soliciting for advertising in support of the library. “Despite the fact that we have asked Universal Ad to stop soliciting on our behalf, they have continued to do

local businesses,” explains Kelly Reisig, Director. According to the Better Business Bureau, the company has received 101 complaints in the last 3 years, and an additional 52 in just the last 12 months. As a result, their Better Business Bureau page does have an alert that the company has a pattern of disputes alleging customer service issues.

“We certainly appreciate local support. Without it we would not have a library. This business, however, provides a cautionary tale that it is better to contact the organization directly to provide support,” stated Reisig.

WATFORD CITY 2018 HIGHLIGHTS

One of the greatest enhancements to Watford City in 2018 was the opening of the new McKenzie County Healthcare Sys-tems (MCHS) facility.

In August 2016, JE Dunn began construction on the McK-enzie County Healthcare Systems replacement medical facility. The new building opened to the public on July 1, 2018. Since then MCHS has seen approximately 2,800 emergency room pa-tients. The radiology department sees over 200 visits per month. This state-of-the-art, $76.3 million facility features a brand-new hospital and clinic as well as updates to the connected Good Shepherd Home (long-term care facility) and nearby Horizon Assisted Living. The facility is comprised of 24 inpatient rooms, nine emergency room bays and two operating rooms.

The storm that rocked Watford City on July 10 ended with the fatality of a young child, critically injured nine people and hurt more than a dozen others. It also left parts of Watford City in shambles, particularly the Prairie View RV Park that suffered the bulk of the damage. More than 200 homes were destroyed and many families were displaced by the EF2 tornado, many of them RVs or trailers lived in

Sidney Drama is #4 in the STATE!!!Submitted by Christy Pierce

Sidney Speech, Drama and Debate Team travelled to Belgrade for the Class A State Tournament with 18 competitors ready to give it their all. Friday the team competed in 3 rounds with a single judge in the room. Saturday there were 2 more rounds, then the lowest score was dropped, and the top 16 moved on to Semi Finals where they have 3 judges, after the scores were totaled the top 8 moved on to Finals. Debate is a little different because they also have Quarter Finals.

In order to compete at State a competitor must place at Divisionals and unfortunately freshman Lexy Obergfell who competed valiantly in Impromptu Speaking was left behind.

The Speech Team coached by Gail Staffanson had 4 com-petitors competing in Impromptu Speaking, Original Oratory & Memorized Public Address.

Impromptu Speaking is when a speaker is given a phrase or cartoon and then they have 3 minutes to write a 5-7 minute speech. Senior Shanyn Reidle competed in Impromptu at state and she made it all the way to Semi Finals.

Ordinal Oratory is Original written work by the student that is in the persuasive nature. Freshman Abby Kyhl competed in Original Oratory. She made it to state.

Memorized Public Address Material used in this event are addresses which have originally been presented by the author as an address in a speaker/audience situation. Juniors Christine

The Debate Team coached by Hunter Gordon had 5 com-petitors competing in 2 different debate categories, Public Forum and Lincoln-Douglas.

Public Forum Debate focuses on the advocacy of a po-sition derived from the issues presented in the resolution, not a prescribed set of burdens. Sophomores Jazmine Hernadez and Brandon Smith competed at state ending with a 2-3 record.

Lincoln-Douglas Debate is given a topic and then they either

with a 4-1 record placing 5th in the state beating all the com-petitors in the EAST. Samuel Stephenson competed with a 3-2 record, Yarenci Gonzalez ended her season with a 2-3 record.

Humorous Duo is of the humorous nature with 2 compet-itors. Seniors Josh Delaney and Tyler Berka made it to Semi Finals.

Classical Theatre is an event that may be serious or hu-morous in nature. The piece must be published at least 75 years ago.

Sophomores Dan ie l Schneider and Shoua Vang are STATE CHAMPIONS, Tyler Berka & Josh Delaney placed 5th, Noah Kyhl & Isaac Quiroz placed 6th.

The 2018-2019 season has come to an end, it was an amazing season and I am looking forward to next year.

pick up and make their way through the committees. So we are seeing more and more

bills have been clean up bills and nothing very controversial. But there are some good bills coming, some controversial bills coming and some real wild bills coming.
