  • GERARD O BRIEN producerLadies and gentlemen, wel-come to this, our 15th anni-versary celebration and pro-duction of Phantom of the Opera. We are most grateful to the Really Useful Group for permitting us to stage this extremely popular produc-tion. You will note that the performing licence is restrict-ed to those that are 21 years of age and under.

In these very difficult eco-nomic times we are most grateful and humbled by the enormous generosity of so many people. These include our sponsors, patrons, past members, and friends of Phoenix Produc-tions for their financial assistance, without which this project simply could not hap-pen. Particular thanks must be extended to Lisheen Mine.

Behind-the-scenes a most dedicated and professional committee has worked tire-lessly to make sure that funds remain available to assist the production team in placing this opus before the people of Thurles, and its environs. Such is the pop-ularity of this show that people have au-ditioned from all over the county and be-yond. We thank everybody for being here and making such a valuable contribution to this celebration of musical theatre.

Phoenix Productions continues to evolve . Its lifeblood remains the love of stagecraft. This has been nurtured by the production team. Most special thanks to Aisling Doyle, whose dedication to direction, cho-reography and involving the audience re-

mains unparalleled; to David Wrays commitment to getting the best out of young sing-ers with the best accompani-ment possible, to Gerry Taylor whose unbridled realism keeps us all grounded, while, at the same time, gloriously lit; and to John O Donoghue, whose in-terpretation of a vision remains mysterious and magical. This team has a perpetual belief in the value of handing on skills

and expertise to the younger generation. This conviction remains at the forefront of their musical/theatrical motivation.

North Tipperary is blessed by its consis-tent dedication to sport, music, drama and the arts. Our schools are beyond compar-ison. Nothing assists the development of the young more than the involvement of our young people in these activ-ities. Long may these efforts continue!

Finally, thank you for taking the time to support the young people involved in this produc-tion.

ALLAN BUTLER set constructionAllan Butler has been involved in Phoenix Productions since 2008. Even at that stage, he flirted with stage man-agement, construction and design. Allan congratulates Phoenix Productions for taking on this project in its 15th year. He hopes that Phoenix will continue to take on such challenging undertakings into the future. He is absolutely delighted, once again, to take on the role of stage manager for this years production of The Phantom of the Opera.

It has been a particularly challenging project because of the complexity of the plot and the demands that naturally flow therefrom. He is particularly grateful to his uncle Liam Crowe for his knowledge and expertise. He wishes

to acknowledge the immense contribution made by Jack Rossiter, recently returned from a European tour. He has enjoyed every minute of working with the cast and crew on Phantom of the Opera.

SYNOPSISFar beneath the majesty and splendour of the Paris Opera House, hides

the Phantom in a shadowy existence. Shamed by his physical appearance and feared by all, the love he holds for his beautiful protge Christine Daa

is so strong that even her heart cannot resist.

The musical opened at Her Majestys Theatre on 9 October 1986 with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman in the leading roles, and there have been dozens of productions worldwide since then.

Andrew Lloyd Webbers mesmerising score along with jaw-dropping scenery and breath-taking special effects, magically combine to bring this tragic love story to life each night.
