Philosophy of Education

Education is not preparation for life but life itself (John Dewey). It is a long process which lasts for the whole life. It starts from the womb and ends in the tomb. It begins at birth and ends at death.

Philosophy shapes education.

Philosophy is defined as the love and pursuit of wisdom by intellectual means and moral self-discipline. It includes the practice of education, because in education a person me become a destructive or a builder, simply because of the learning he/she acquired in the process of time.

History records Philosophy.

While living a person accumulates philosophy on which history records. His- story records about important events of individual’s history. Philosophical theories as not “laws/authorities” they are only as good as their arguments.

Reflection.

As a teacher I can affect eternity on my learner, I can never tell where my influence stops. My own philosophy of education will influence all my activities in the classroom from how I teach, what I teach, how I manage my classroom, how I relate to students, parents and colleague and how I conduct my professional life.

Directions: After reading the syllabus that specifies topics, in-class writing activities and their corresponding scores, what impressions and realizations have you achieved? Write them in three paragraphs below. You can likewise write at the back, if you have much to say.

Answer:

I need to study this subject not only as a requirement of the course but to reinforce and advance my knowledge on critical and analytical thinking (philosophizing and theorizing skills). This subject will help me to fully understand concepts and practices of Education within the ambit of time, space and change, which are further interwoven to define and redefine past, recent, and contemporary education along the dimensions of educational leadership and management, management of curriculum and instruction in the basic as well in higher education.

Towards the end of the semester, I will become fully equip with independent learning processes and exploratory learning tools. With a professor-director discussions, I believe that the lessons will help me acquire stock knowledge and will truly inculcate critical and analytical thinking through simplifying complicated issues - the processes of deconstruction or reconstruction. The new construction will intend to offer new definition, development and instructional leadership and management.

The topics, quizzes, and the overall grading system will help assess my acquired knowledge of the subject matter.

1st Discussion: Typologies and Parameters of time

Directions: Elucidate this: which is BETTER- Short but fulfilled or Long but Wasted?

Answer:

Living a short but fulfilled and long but wasted life is not the total parameter of better existence. I believe that doing the purpose – to be useful, responsible, and be compassionate matters. As a person, I want to achieve a BETTER life by seeking SIGNIFICANCE, because it will always last, carries on & satisfies.

A realization that life won’t last forever and that our life must be worth copying, will help us to focus on positive attitude towards challenges made by time, space and change.
