I believe that all children are unique and have special qualities within them and it is my
job as a teacher to provide a safe and educational atmosphere where they can express their
individuality and grow physically, intellectually, and emotionally. In my classroom I will
provide a safe environment where students are challenged to reach their full potential and I will
dedicate myself to inspire students towards academic excellence and positive social
development. Within the confines of my English classroom I will help my students gain reading
skills, grammar skills, and writing skills, while also educating them on historical matters along
the way. By being an English teacher, I hope to make English a more enjoyable and fun subject.
I will make sure my students are confident with their reading and writing even if I have to spend
one-on-one time with them after school in order to accomplish this. I believe that the children
are our future and that it is my role as an educator to ensure their success as they grow up.
As a teacher in the twenty-century, it is apparent that technology is becoming the new
form of learning. Technology is an amazing way to help get the students engaged and excited
about each lesson. In my future classroom, I will use technology in order to further educate my
students on a certain topic. For instance, I will find information and media clips from different
websites in order for the students to further understand my lesson. I will also have the students
attend the computer lab during my class period in order for them to do research and type their
papers. Not all students have accessibility to a computer, therefore by giving them time in class
to complete their papers, accessibility will no longer be a problem.
Diversity within the classroom is a topic that needs to be addressed due to the increasing
rise of immigrants to the United States. I believe that the topic of diversity needs to be
approached to a fuller extent at many schools and that the public school system fails to meet the
needs of diverse students. As a teacher, I will ensure that I meet all of the needs of my students.
For students that are ELL, I will label different objects in my classroom in their native language,
speak louder and slower while presenting a lesson, and I will use pictures in my lessons in order
to ensure that they fully understand the question. For my students that are economically diverse,
I will have extra writing materials in my classroom that will be for the use of all of my students.
Also, when it comes time to write an essay, I will designate time in the computer lab because not
all of my students will have computer access at home. As an English teacher, I will inspire my
students to read novels about the lives of diverse students instead of the cookie-cutter male,
Anglo-Saxon, upper class novels that are part of the classics. By reading novels that relate to
their life, students will become more engaged in literature.
Throughout my career as an educator, I plan on continually growing my knowledge and
ability in my subject matter through the help of my students. Although I am the teacher, my
students will improve my understanding of subject matter and encourage me to develop into a
better, more professional educator. Teachers have a lot to learn from their students and it is
important that all teachers understand this notion. Learning is a two-way street and gaining
knowledge from students will further improve your role as an educator.
