Defensive Tackle Stance and Alignment 1. 3 point stance, feet parallel or nearly. No more than toe-to-heel

stagger. Stance is individualistic with flexibility allowed.2. Shoulders parallel to the ground and LOS3. Be able to see both offensive lineman (C-OG or OG-OT)4. Feet up under you.5. Distance from the ball will vary from individual to individual and

from play to play.Key6. The ball to head, move when it moves.7. Key primary O-lineman (C or OG)Base Technique8. Take a short step forward, thrusting your face mask forward into

the lineman bringing both hands up at the same time to the sternum of center

9. With arms disengage (bench press) the lineman away from your body.

10. Do not get knocked down. Keep your feet moving.Gap Stunts1. Pirate Step

• Step flat towards assigned gap and read the OL inside knee.• Rack backside arm through guard’s head.• Get square and find the ball. Do not get knocked down.

2. Penetrating Step• Stepping into assigned gap and get up field.

Responsibility 3. Be such a predominant factor in every play to force our opponent

into a double team.4. On outside plays, pursue flat, keep your feet, run to the ball.5. Know pass and draw situations.6. Move around. Cause confusion. Force guards and center to make

calls.
