    4.2 Service Positions

    For easy servicing of this set, there are a few possibilitiescreated: The buffers from the packaging. Foam bars (created for Service).

    4 .2.1 Foam Bars

    The foam bars (order code 3122 785 90580 for two pieces) canbe used for all types and sizes of Flat TVs. See Figure 4-4 fordetails. Sets with a display of 42" and larger, require four foambars [1]. Ensure that the foam bars are alway s supporting thecabinet and never only the display.Caution: Failure to follow these guidelines can seriouslydamage the display!By laying the TV face down on the (ESD protectiv e) foam bars,a stable situation is c reated to perform measurements andalignments. By placing a mirror under the TV, the screen can

    4.3 Assy/Panel Removal Styling

    4.3.1 Rear Cover

    Warning: Disconnect the mains power cord before removingthe rear cover.1. Remove the fixation screws that secure the rear cover.2. Lift the rear cover from the TV. Make sure that wires and

    flat foils are not damaged while lifting the rear cover fromthe set.

    4.3.2 Power Supply Unit (PSU)

    Caution: it is mandatory to remount all different s crews at theiroriginal position during re-assembly. Failure to do so may resul tin damaging the SSB.1. Unplug all connectors.2. Remove all fixation screws.3. The PSU can now be taken out of the set.When defective, replace the whole unit.

    4.3.3 Small Signal Board (SSB)

    Caution: it is mandatory to remount all different s crews at theiroriginal position during re-assembly. Failure to do so may resul tin damaging the SSB.1. Unplug the LVDS connector.

    Caution: be careful, as these are very fragile connectors!2. Unplug all other connectors.3. Remove the screw near the L- AUDIO- R at the side I/O

    cover.4. Remove the rest of the fixation screws.5. The SSB can now be taken out of the set.

    4 .3.4 Speake rs

    1. Release the speaker connector from the unit.

    2. Take the speakers out together with their casing.When defective, replace the whole unit.

    4.3.5 Keyboard Control Panel

    Refer to Figure 4-5 for details.1. Unplug the connector [1].2. Remove the cover screws [2] and take out the whole unit.When defective, replace the whole unit.

    5.4 Fault Finding and Repair Tips

    5.4.1 Exit Factory Mode

    Choose EXIT, then press OK button.

    Make sure that the volume is set to minimum duringdisconnecting the speakers in the ON-state of the TV. Theaudio amplifier can be damaged by disconnecting the speakersduring ON-state of the set!

    6.3.3 Alignment method

    1. Select source as PC.2. Set contrast =80, Brightness=50 at NORMAL menu mode.3. Apply 5 white block pattern by VGA pattern generator.4. Enter factory mode menu: press numeric keys 062596 +

    INFO key (SAM mode menu).

    6.3.4 Alignment

    1. At FAC mode menu, select AUTO_COLOR item. Thenpress OK key to auto adjus t ADC_GAIN_R,ADC_GAIN_G, ADC_GAIN_B and ADC_OFFSET_R,ADC_OFFSET_G, ADC_OFFSET_B. Then store thosevalues to NVM.

    2. Apply flat pattern.3. Set colour temperature to NORMAL.4. At FAC mode menu, adjust the CLR_TEMP_R,

    CLR_TEMP_G, CLR_TEMP_B value to meet NORMALcolour coordinates according to Table 6-1 . Then thosevalues to NVM.

    5. Repeat step 4 for COOL and WARM.

    7.1 Introduction

    This chassis is a derivative from theTPS1.2E LA chassis.It

    comes with styling called Click.Its built around the MST9A885GL-LF System on Chip (SoC).

    7.1.1 Feature s

    The main features for this chassis are: High performance back-end processing Perfect Pixel HD

    engine capable of 300 Mpixels/sec. With this technology,each pixel of the incoming picture is enhanced to better

    match the surrounding pixels, resulting in a more naturalpicture. Artifacts and noise in all sources from multimediato standard TV to highly-compressed high-definition (HD)are detected and reduced. This results in a clean and razorsharp image.

    7.1.2 Click Architecture Overview

    For details about the chassis block diagrams refer to chapterBlock diagrams, Test Point Overview, and Waveforms. Anoverview of the xxPFL3404 architecture can be found in nextfigure Architecture of xxPFL3404 platform. Sets with allresolutions @ 60 Hz use the MST9A885GL SoC. With thesame configuration, a resolution of 1360x768p @ 59.79 Hz, oreven 1920 1080p@60 Hz can be achieved.

    7.2 Main Supply

    All Power Supply Units deliver the following voltage to thechassis: +12V for the audio amplifier + 5V for USB, STBY, TUNER, and Panel_PWR +3.3 V for SD-RAM, Scaler, HDMI SWITCH, USB2, AVDD,

    and VDDP +2.6 V for VDDM and DDR

    7.2.1 Power Supply

    The sets in this chassis comes with a buy-in LG supply units:

    LC190WH1 LC220WXEThis supply unit delivers the power for the display. Refer tochapter Circuit Diagrams and PWB Layouts. The powersupply for the SSB is located on the SSB itself.The connector to the SSB-platform is CN902, which has all thebasic requirements for the SSB-power.When defective, a new panel must be ordered and thedefective panel must be sent for repair, unless the main f use ofthe panel is broken. Always replace a defective fuse with onewith the correct specifications! This part is available in theregular market.

    7.3 On-Board Platform Supply

    In this platform, an on-board platform supply has beenforeseen. This means that the mains voltage, after filtering, isfed to the SSB.

    The supply is a Self Oscillating Power Supply (SOPS) andworking according to the Quasi Resonant Conversion (QRC)principle.

    7.4 On-board DC/DC Converters

    In this platform, on-board DC/DC converters have beenforeseen.

    7.5 Tuner (TAFT-S710D)

    The tuner has the following specifications: 2 in1 tuner for Analog. Covers all bands in VHF and UHF including hyper

    channels for CCIR system. I2C- bus control of tuning, address selection, Broadcasting

    system. Built-in DC/DC Converter (5v to 33V) & PAL(B/G, I, D/K) /

    SECAM L/L Demodulator/NTSC(B/G)

    Repair tip: After replacement of the tuner, the option codeshould be checked, even when the set appears to functioncorrectly! Refer also to chapter 5 Service Modes, Error Codes,and Fault Finding.

    7.6 MST9A885GL

    In this chassis, the MST9A885GL is a high performance andfully integrated IC with resolutions up to SXGA (1280 1024)

    / WXGA+ (1440 900). It is configured with an integratedtriple-ADC/PLL, an integrated DVI/HDCP/HDMI receiver, amulti-standard TV video and audio decoder, a videode-interlacer, a scaling engine, the MStar ACE-3 colour engine,an on-screen display controller, an 8-bit MCU and a built-inoutput panel interface. By use of external frame buffer, 3-Dvideo decoding and processing are fulfilled for high-quality TVapplications. To further reduce system costs, theMST9A885GL also integrates intelligent power managementcontrol capability for green-mode requirements and spread-spectrum support for EMI management.
