Based on projected consumption increases from Food policy research institute, the Philippines is one of the fastest growing meat consuming nations in the world. Compound annual growth to 2021 was predicted to be over 30 percent for pork, chicken and beef. The top 10 countries by forecast growth in beef pork and chicken consumption from 2011 to 2021 include the Philippines. Moreover according to London-based industry intelligence provider ReportBuyer, the outlook for the Philippine’s livestock sector is expected to show healthy growth rates.
The Philippine Association of Meat Processors Inc (PAMPI) noted the number of slaughter houses and accredited facilities has increased up to 10 percent per annum, driven by a growing population. Over the past five years, Filipino’s per capita consumption of meat has increased to 15 kg for pork, which according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), is over two kg more than world’s average pork consumption. During the same period, per capita consumption has increased from 10 to 14 kgs for chicken and two kgs for beef.
