‘O wonder! How many goodly creatures are there here! How beauteous mankind is! O brave new world, That has such people in’t. - William Shakespeare, The Tempest

The world we live in is in a constant state of flux. The way that we react and interpret these changes, establishes the trajectory we set for our future. The Australian Federation of Friends of Museums’ annual AGM and Conference this year will endeavour to provide a platform to discuss some issues that affect AFFM members, along with some potential strategies that can be employed in response. We’re excited to have such a strong and broad selection of people who are enthusiastic to speak to AFFM members on myriad topics. Among them being: alternative types of fundraising, utilising technology and connecting through social media, adapting to changing audiences within the community, and working with volunteers. Our aim is to leave AFFM members

feeling not only refreshed, but invigorated and inspired to go forth with a set of new ideas to take away and implement. Let’s get together, connect and share knowledge about our successes and failures so we can position ourselves and our organisations on the global

KFFM was hosting the annual conference of WFFM 2013 Council Meeting and General Assembly, which was held on April 22~25, 2013 in Seoul, Korea.

We hope it will mark the establishment of a solid partnership among members of Federation of Museum around the world for the goal of a stable development of museums.

We were pleased to note the increasing cooperation between ICOM and WFFM by signing of another MOU between ICOM Korea and KFFM. We wish that the WFFM will continue to grow and that museum organizations in Asia will further strengthen their footing towards development.

It' that time of year again when members of the National Museum Volunteers (NMV) get together at our Annual Reception at the Dusit Thani Hotel to meet and catch up with old friends who share a love of the rich history, art and culture of Thailand and the region. It's also the time when our members welcome newcomers to Bangkok where they are introduced to the NMV and its ever evolving platform of cultural and educational pursuits.

Our Annual Reception is the ideal opportunity to become acquainted with the wealth of activities the NMV has to offer. Members and newcomers alike can sign up for a host of unique events in the form of excursions, study groups, lectures or

guiding workshops - where many members choose to train as museum guides. Through these activities our members gain appreciation and invaluable insights into the region’s treasures from a host of art historians and scholars eager to share their knowledge.

So whether you are an existing member or have recently arrived in Thailand, please join us for coffee and snacks and enjoy a surprise cultural performance accompanied by a fascinating presentation on ‘Thai Traditional Weddings’ by our distinguished patron M.R. Chakrarot Chirabongs. With this lecture we shall be opening the theme for the upcoming NMV year ‘Thai Traditions and Festivals’.

Since 1972 the National Museum Volunteers has organized the well-attended “NMV Lecture Series” which is in its 68th iteration this year. Held in English, two lectures a week are held for four consecutive weeks and are designed to interest those who are new to Thailand as well as those who call Thailand home. A line up of distinguished speakers deliver their talks at the National Museum auditorium located on the grounds of the National Museum, once the palace of the Deputy King of Siam.

The series is a good introduction to “all things Thai”. Traditionally it covers arts, culture, religion and history up to modern times. Topics are often inspired by the Museum's architecture, sculptures, paintings, artworks, and collections of instruments, ceramics, pearl inlay, woodcarvings, stone etchings, theater pieces, textiles, thrones and chariots etc .for which the museum is famous.
